I was surprised he expressed any interest in the first place as I think that, if he really wants to be a CFB HC again, this is the wrong job for him to take at the moment. His career cannot withstand another non-success.

I suppose it's possible he was willing to hear out Hobbs and whomever about the job without having a serious interest in it. They went to him, not the other way around. Maybe he isn't all that interested in coaching again, or wants a safer job to start.

I just think he's the sort of person that knows what he wants and wouldn't have bothered with the meeting at all if he wasn't interested in the job.
He has tried putting his name in the hat for other jobs over the years. The only bite was Tennessee. Your mental girations on this to rationalize him walking away shows the typical self loathing mentality of some RU fans on this forum. This stuff is way out there

It does if you think about the job any HC would be taking on.

RU was the most successful stop in his career. Does he want to take the very realistic chance of tarnishing that? Does he think he still has the drive to rebuild a program?

I'm not saying he won't take the job but don't think it's a certainty either.
he will have between $25-30 mill reasons to not walk away

He accepted then walked away from Michigan at the very last minute.
Different circumstances. At the time he was pissed that Corzine reneged on the funding promise for the recruiting lounge. Corzine was lashing out because his bond issue was voted down. GS walked away only after Corzine promised that he would raise the money privately himself.

First of all you have no proof he went this far in negotiations with Michigan. Also, he had no history or connection to Michigan. Much easier to walk away. He wouldn’t do it to RU.

Had there not been a team meeting called so that he could tell them he was leaving?

Have there not been stories about it. Hasn't Greg said it?

"So. Everyone on the planet thinks Schiano got a real offer from Michigan and had actually accepted it before making a last-second 180. Mainstream news accounts even have this version of events. I think this is incontrovertible. For a brief period from about 11 PM December 6th to 11 AM December 7th, Greg Schiano was Michigan's coach. Then he backed out."

It was well reported in many places that Schiano had a deal in place to become the head football coach at Michigan. Yes mighty mighty Michigan and then decided to stay at Rutgers.

Multiple people on here said announcement last Monday (you know who you are) people at the RAC last night said today(you know who you are) I am calling you all frauds. No credibility with me anymore. I'll just wait till its announced. SMFH.
You’re acting like a child. RU wants to hire him and he wants the job. They are tying up the RU commitment piece. Sounds like some insiders underestimated the hoops that need to jump through.

Gotta feel for the TKR mods:

i recommend some hand exercises and stretches as they will be busy deleting erroneous crap, false innuendo, over reactions (good and bad), potentially links to “worship” songs (eeeeek)...and the eternal battle of the Schianonites vs the rest.

if state penn fans chime in to tell, we could have a crash!

gird up your loins!

From what I heard at the RAC last night, Schiano did not ask for anything unreasonable and Rutgers is moving forward to ink the deal with Schiano. Can't tell you when that will happen.

Guess you have actual facts that Urban was lying when he said GS had other opportunities before Tenn.

For the millionth time, there is no doubt at all that Greg has been and is interested. We're simply seeing standard negotiations now and we're in a situation where both sides need the other side. Greg is not going to get a head coaching job as good as RU and RU is not going to get a coach better for the job (for the $$ we're likely to offer) than Schiano. Also, the BOG (or at least the folks on it involved with athletics) has known for some time that we need to invest more in football facilities to at least remain competitive with the middle tier of B1G programs - I presume they're prepared to act on that.

If Greg isn't announced as our next coach before the OSU game, I'll be shocked and if he isn't the next coach at all, I'll never post anything again about what some insider source said to me about Rutgers - unless somehow the deal-breaker is the indoor facility (that's not something I've had any insight into).

Also, don't be surprised to see KMac come back in some capacity...

There are several differences.

Greg was coming off COY
He had a job
The deal and negotiations were on triple secret probation
IMO if offered what he wants and walks away he will be off limits for most schools: why negotiate, spend time and energy and work ur fan base up into a frenzy if the guy can’t pull the trigger? Answer: you don’t.

Hoping the BOG meets quickly and approves the conditions including a penthouse on top of the practice facility with a view of the stadium (jk)

That article goes further than what my source has always told me. He told me the day before the offer that Greg told him he wasn't going to accept the offer he knew was coming and I posted to that effect. UM then offered and Greg was seriously considering it, but never actually said yes and then pulled back. He has always been firm that Greg, after talking it over with his staff and his wife, decided to stay at RU, but it was certainly a close call, as Michigan is, well, Michigan. But there is zero question that UM offered and wanted Greg badly. Could Greg have truly changed his mind and temporarily accepted and then declined? Sure, that's possible, but even after the fact my friend said that that didn't happen.

Just text me that the BOG is inclined to accept Schiano’s terms. At this time my source is saying that only Schiano not wanting the job will derail this from happening. The BOG could meet as early as Monday in emergency session to approve the contract.

Will they meet on a holiday? (Veterans Day)

Sounds like your source is closer to Schiano's agent than to the RU administration. If Schiano didn't want the job, he wouldn't have pursued it at all.
Could a 3rd party unofficially acting on Rutgers behalf have contacted Greg to gauge his interest and let RU know he would listen to their offer if they wanted to talk to him?
So the pursuit might have started ( unofficially) on the Rutgers side ( maybe a booster contacting Greg's agent) and moved into official status from someone outside of official Rutgers channels contacting Schiano or someone close to him and letting Hobbs know Greg would listen to an offer if the job was available .
