Cal can't develop talent and that's why he's been sticking his hands into the Grad Transfers the past few years. He has other coaches develop the players then promise them a spot over seas.

Cal was done when the top high school players figured out that they didn't have to play at a blueblood and get drafted. Heck, they don't even have to play in the NCAA tournament. His strategy would still work if 95 percent of his roster didn't go pro or transfer before they were ready.
Ben Simmons broke the algorithm.

First of all you guys need to stop worrying. I’m sick of this culture where we’re scared of our own shadow. This is KENTUCKY BASKETBALL. we don’t take a back seat to a MF’r. Calipari is not even a top 3 coach in our history and over the next season that won’t even be debatable. To even suggest he’s done as good of a job as Joe B is a slap in the face of a good man which Hall is and Cal is not.

Don’t worry about how we replace the roster if he leaves, worry how you’re going to replace the roster if he STAYS.

The longer we play this game the worse it’s going to get. Calipari is not who you guys think he is and never was. If you hold on to him he will sink this program on purpose. He’s a megalomaniac that cares about nothing but himself. Force him out or pay the consequences. That’s where we are.

And btw, buying him out will be cheaper than dealing WITH those consequences. Don’t believe me? Get ready for the show.

New poster? Sounds like a familiar sentiment ;)

The transfers this year have been as big a disappointment or more than the freshmen.

It is 100% a fear. If you push Cal out with no concrete plan in place (not reality btw) you have one miss-hire to work with.

I don't think some of our fans realize how close to irrelevancy we were when we hired Cal. The safe bet is Cal turns this around. Stubborn as hell but competitive as hell too. To an extent MB played with fire, sold his soul to the devil, all those analogies....we needed Cal and Cal needed us. You don't replace Cal with a random college guy...you go big or go home. Spoelstra, Stevens, etc...probably not realistic.

For me I would rather roll the dice with Cal than some unproven coach...ala Chris Beard....lightning in a bottle type. I could be wrong. Why? Put the keys to the castle in his hand if it goes south where do you turn? That is your one chance, miss there, game over...especially with the current state of CBB.

Cal is what, 61? I will take my chances on 9 more years and hopefully I more title at least.

JMHO

HH, a few things.

1. Nobody has performed to the level of sustainment like we have over time. We were never going to fall off.

2. I really like you and people take me wrong so don’t when I say this. You need to get your head out of your *** just a little bit and stop downplaying coaches like Beard. There is no flash in the pan. The guy has KILLED it at Texas tech and it took him 5 years to have that doormat program more relevant than Kentucky. Let that sink in. He’s currently near the top 10 AGAIN, gonna have a great seed and perform better than Cal AGAIN. Do you need 10 years to know it?

The Beard hate is so ridiculous I don’t think some of you pay attention at all and it’s irritating as hell. The guy would be a huge upgrade over Calipari but don’t worry, as soon as Kansas is done with Self he will be their first call. Get ready for Kansas to take more than just the all time wins when that happens. They will be more than happy to take that “flash in the pan” and kick our *** for a long time with him.

Ok I think its fair to call this a lost season at this point. It is what it is. But my biggest worry at this point is recruiting. We got absolutely destroyed on the recruiting trail after a 38-1 season with negative recruiting due to platoon and not featuring kids with enough minutes. How bad is it going to be when BJ Boston and T Clarke draft stock absolutely plummets? These kids were top 5/10 recruits in most rankings. The negative recruiting is about to ramp up to 10. I hope Jai is really good at his job bc I don't trust Joel or Bruiser to pull in any one.

Edit: For everyone say the biggest problem with UK is Cal, its impossible to buy out Cal. Only way he leaves is if he willingly walks out on the biggest contract in NCAAB. His ego is to big to miss out on his pay day.
Can you imagine how Jai must feel about this season? I wonder if he thinks it was a mistake leaving Texas for this dumpster fire? I too hope he is really good at his job. My biggest concern, however, is that Cal doesn’t know what to do with players when he or someone else gets them. Changes need to be made, but our coach is either too stubborn or doesn’t know what to do. Imo, it’s both of these.

I think Jai is happy about his pay raise. I think Jai also knows he has a VERY tall task with recruiting this season. Collins was a gimme, the rest aren't.

1. We can agree to disagree on #1.

2. I don't hate Beard, I am not sold on him. He had a good run with an AA. I would like to see more...that is my point.

Every West coast kid we've ever gotten has transferred back. The pac 12 is a very easy conference and its home to them. Also he sucks.

Lol on last piece. He has been a biy better. I don't think any WC kids have gotten the run he had though...I suppose it is possible but it would be a surprise...expect the unexpected though.

That's not what I meant. I see what you're saying. I think we can get a proven coach. Mitch made a bad hire with Gillispie.

It won't be a surprise when Cal signs a new PG and tells askew hes coming off the bench. I personally don't think the kid has the juice to be the future PG of UK. He reminds me a lot of Quade Green

Y’all are killing me.

Askew is transferring at the end of the year.

I feel like I’m at the end of a tunnel screaming for y’all to come the hell on.

1) can cal develop 4 year players and keep them without transfer? remains to be seen
2)I expect Askew to transfer
3) Cal will live and die by the strength of the recruiting class. Thats how its always been

1 and 3 are kind of the same.. and I agree we don't know if he can switch gears.

The only reason I can see Askew transferring is if Clarke reclassifys. The incoming guards aren't going to take Askews spot, who, while not perfect, has shown a lot of improvement. I think Ware and Fletcher are your most likely transfer candidates.

Lets remember, a lot of transfers happen, as far as we know, because of incoming talent that replaces them. If Cal can no longer recruit, the holdover won't likely leave.

Again, time will tell. But I think some of our problems and gripes will fix themselves on their own.

If we don't return more than 4 of

Boston
Clarke
Allen
Fletcher
Ware
Askew
Toppin
Jackson

Well then, I suppose I will be on the dark side.
My predictions
Boston-Draft
Clarke-Draft
Allen-Return
Fletcher-Transfer
Ware-Transfer/Return 50-50
Askew-Transfer
Toppin-Return
Jackson- Return

I really, really, really don't want to wind up like IU. And it's a legit fear; numerous fans on this board echo many things I've heard from IU fans over the years.
How hard would it be to find a coach to lose at home to Richmond by 12 and to Bama by 20? Lost to ND at home. Lose to UofL. Lose to Ga Tech. Lose to two of our biggest rivals.
I'd say there's about 15-20 coaches out there that coul do that.

Cal will always defer to the new toy PG. We've seen it time and time again. Also 1 is referring to player development. 3 is referring to OAD

No. Quade had to be ball ball dominant to succeed. Askew not at all. Devin is imo a solid backup at both the 1 and 2 at this point but has to play because no one ahead of him is better.

He could be a starting PG and do well like Epps. He needs that kind of talent around him tho.

IMO askew isn't athletic and he cant shoot. The reason Askew isn't a ball dominate PG is bc he simply lacks the skills to dominate on ball. He cant beat his defender off the dribble at all and he picks up his dribble way too often.
