Its not Grant. Yes that fumble hurt but you can't win games in college football with 10 points

What's more of a concern is that our coaches went an entire off-season with Sims and our WR's and no red flags/warning bells went off.

They should have been throwing NIL's around to bring in some real talent. We aren't going to be scoring points this season.

"Entire off-season?" The coaches get 15 practices in spring, only 12 of which can have contact.

The coaches have limited contact during winter conditioning and the summer.

While I agree the team needs a talent upgrade, the truth is that everybody else has NIL money and playing time to offer as well. And some of them have won more games of late.

Until things change in the recruiting side, not much will change with the results on the field. Like Urban said in the pre-game, when you start seeing more Nebraska players in the NFL draft, you'll most likely be seeing victories.

It might not mean much, but it certainly seems that the teams that get a dozen or more 4* players every year win a helluva lot of games. Rhule and his staff have to work harder than they ever have in that regard.

This is correct. Nebraska's roster is just not on par with Top-20 college teams. Player development is a factor. I thought Sims was a legit NFL prospect but that was just awful.

I listened to Michael Rose Ivey talk about the Gopher DC. He thinks he’s very good. They had a very good plan and unfortunately we didn’t do what Rhule said we would do by committing to the run game. Ervin running the ball 8-10 more times maybe wins the game.

It's not recruiting. We have always had better rosters than minnesota. They beat us knocking the **** out of us. Looked like roles reversed tonight to just have my heart ripped out.

Totally get what you're saying there, dingle. Unfortunately, this o-line is hideous. And Sims is exactly what I saw in three games at GT last year I can't remember if I actually said it here, but I have said it. He is extremely athletic, but he is not a good DI qb. He is a guy that can wow you with his legs, then make you go Wtf??? a play later. Compound that with ABSOLUTELY NO receivers that can get open....well....you get what you get. The line is.....just bad. Period.

It is what it is. We are not a good team offensively. It's going to be ugly. We don't have the line to run the offense he wants to run, either.

Defensively, I like what I saw, overall. On the TD pass, Hartzog kind of f'd up, I believe. His only responsibility is outside shoulder out. He bit, a ridiculous catch...
.....well...you saw it. This team has zero room for error.

Game one on the road with a new staff. I’m hoping the offense makes a jump. We did run the ball fairly well and I’m perplexed we didn’t ride Ervin. The first guy never brought him down. Threw it too much IMO

According to recruiting rankings, it shouldn't be, but if you look at the actual product on the field, it tells a different story. I thought Minnesota looked far more impressive physically, they were both lean and big. I thought our guys looked kinda small and pudgy in comparison. To place the blame, I'd say it's both a combination of Frost's terrible S&C program and also he was just a terrible evaluator of talent.

Every time I saw Grant tap dancing two yards behind the line of scrimmage I literally yelled out loud "What the F*ck is Grant doing in the game?" and it finally cost us. I don't know what these coaches see in him, but it is a mirage.

Yep, not good. We could see it after a quarter or two, why couldn't they see it in the off-season? We haven't had a serious qb competition since I can remember and that continues to be a huge issue.

We are going to be in a lot of low scoring games with the new clock rules. Razor thin margin for error. Them pretending Sims was a good passer probably cost us game 1. He's a good athlete but not a good decision maker. Ervin looked great but barely got the ball.

The first guy never brought him down on two impressive individual plays. Unfortunately, they were two impressive individual plays that you just flat out can't count on a back to bail you out of consistently. I love the optimism, but this has the potential to get ugly. Like, really, really ugly. Just being honest.

Other teams are going to see this tape. I'm just a ****** JV coach. They'll pick this s##t apart....that's my fear. I am not harpooning Rhule....I actually think he'll get it done here, eventually. For this year, it might be back to doing yard work on game day by week six. Just sayin......

We brought over Kemp and didn't think Betts would quit the team again...once Betts quit I really panicked as he could run past defenders.

We also brought in Coleman, Doss, Turner, Lloyd, Bell for the future but true freshmen can only do so much.

My biggest concern is that they held a game-like practice because "you improve most between game one and game two" and this was billed as our game two. Yikes.

Also, I don't know how you don't take the 3 at the end of the first half. Because Alvano's a freshman maybe? I don't get it.

This offensive coaching staff is trash. Rhule just hired his friends (and the son of a friend, who had no coaching experience), and kept the worst assistant from last year's team, instead of going and getting the best coaches he could get. No other program with our budget would have settled for these clowns.

Like I said before, this should have been a pretty easy win and really it was about to be.

The West is truly little league football, so I am not worried because NU will be in and probably win every game in the west.

If you watch CFB at all, Sims is exactly who he is. The only thing they did wrong was not roll him out more and not run him more. He is the best athlete on the field and will be in almost every single game

Now this might be true.

I have coached a long time and I would much rather coach with friends BUT I don't/never have/don't want to coach at that level. At that level it is a job with very clear expectations and very easy analyzation of how you are doing.

Totally on Sims. If your first option isn’t there easily, throw it to the fans. That was Tommy Armstrong style vs Illinois when he threw on 3rd vs taking running or at the very least fall on his butt to keep the clock moving.

I thought we would get to 17. Then at one point last night, I thought we may not score 17 all year long. Total! There are playmakers out there. Just have to get them the ball in a way that our blind QB can handle.

We didn't utilize our TE's at all. We didn't get the ball to our speedy little WV receiver. We chose to not give the ball to our starting rb until the second half, and we barely did that. Just dump utilization of the players that we have.

The OL looked a lot better. No holding calls that I recall. Better push up front and there were actual holes to run through for a change. There were a couple sacks but Sims really did have time to throw unlike what Casey Thompson and Adrian Martinez were dealing with.

That corner interception was worse than high school level execution. You know he's got to have been told that with 8 seconds left before the half if the receiver isn't wide open you quickly throw it out of bounds and take the field goal. Not only was the receiver not open but the TE was standing completely alone 10 yards away. And on top of that the ball was actually under thrown and the receiver wouldn't have caught it if he was open.
I think Rhule had too much confidence in Sims in that situation and should have just kicked the field goal.

NU made a hash of the RB game substitutions. Rhule announces that Grant has fumbleitis in practice, yet he is in the game for a key running down. I get the fog of game and all, but that was a major f-up. Earvin looks to be a kid who will only get better with reps. And Rahmir looks pretty damn good as a backup. AG needs to get familiar with the bench for awhile.

His legs are a weapon but he's a liability in the passing game as of right now. Purdy and Haarberg need a chance to get some snaps in games.

Rahmir is under-utilized in my opinion. The RB corps is actually pretty good and Grant did have some nice runs until the fumble. We don't appear to have the weapons to win passing 50% of the time so we should go heavy in the run game. The 4th quarter should have been running nearly every down.

Georgia Tech fan here. Always liked the Huskers football teams and hope you guys can return to prominence soon. Was sad for you guys when Sims transferred there because that kid is a total **** show. He is going to drive you stark raving mad. All the potential talent can be seen on a weekly basis, but you will never see someone who makes bigger mistakes at crucial times in the games. Last night's game was a quintessential Sims game. He played just like he's played for the three years prior. After awhile, it will only be a matter of time before he quits on his team which will also happen at some point depending on how long Rhule keeps marching him out on the field.

Your biggest concern shouldn't be your WRs, your OLine, or coaching. The biggest concern you guys should have is how long it takes Rhule to recognize that Sims is going to suck your soul dry and leaves him on the bench while he tries to develop another talent at the position. In the 35 years I've followed GT football, there has never been a more divisive player on our team morseo than Sims. Even last year there was still a decent amount of GT fans who defended Sims and blamed Geoff Collins for his bad play. Then Sims quit on his team during our coaching transition and that was it for the remainder of people who gave him the benefit of the doubt.

I don't want to depress you guys but the faster your coaches can recognize that they got sold a bad bill of goods in Jeff Sims (largely because of Geoff Collins and Matt Rhule's relationship) the better chance you have of moving forward.

Absolutely correct. It was 3rd down with I believe 7 seconds. Throw it into the cheap seats if not there and then kick fg. But then you also have to consider 10 second runoff which confuses me

The push was better....straight forward....I'll give you that. The pass pro was not great, though. Decent on some throws, but absolute blown assignments at times, too.

I also saw on two occasions for sure, that they were pulling a right side G and T and it was so disjointed, I would have been embarrassed if it was my middle school line.

Just go full zone read and QB run. We will win some games until we can get a new QB in. Recruit recruit recruit.
