3. Geo is consistently figuring out how to contribute when his shooting stroke is off. This had been emerging as a trend, he's been figuring out how to contribute and not getting frustrated.

2. After a really off game at PSU and a couple of missed shots, RHJ went inside and managed to score 11 points in the first half on will more than talent. If that is repeated, we are a much better team and he gains a level of consistency behind his history. Well done!

1. Stifling defense in the second half. Elite. If we can use that to spur us moving forward we can win anywhere against any one.

Other optimistic tidbits:
Paul stepping up.

Cliff solid and improving

Caleb ready for Geo's pass and made that floater even though his first basket. Another solid game

Reiber contributing

Hyatt clutch shots

Mag back

AND Lots of opportunities for improvement. Great take for the team to study good and bad.

So much reason for optimism.

Good recap. Geo’s defense on the smaller, faster Russell in the second half was also very good and another key to the victory.

Forget the defense for a second, everything was all set up by not turning the ball over in the second half. All I could do was sit back and laugh in agony during the first half. The team came to the realization that they are so much better than UMD if they don't turn it over. Once they took care of the ball, it forced UMD to earn their points and that was that.

PassReminds me of Akwasi Yeboah
Can be a good contributor. Only concern is after he makes a few baskets, he gets overly confident and shoots from all over the floor. Needs to be better at when to pass and when to shoot. I think he will continue to improve and he is not afraid to mix it up. We need him, Dean and Mag to be big off the bench if we are going to dance.

That is definitely optimism. One of my takeaways was “boy, what would this team do without RHJ.”

Good post just some comments that are slightly different POV:

3. I think Geo has always been like this but I did think last year RHJ deferred to Geo down the stretch. Now I see Geo looking for RHJ down the stretch. A passing of the torch.

2. Agree but it is talent as much as it is will. He effortlessly gets to the rim.

1. Great second half D. Totally agree here.

Thanks.

I think Geo used to focus more on shooting his way out of a funk. He is now more creative in finding ways to contribute.

Yes, #2 requires his enormous talent. But what I was meaning is that while shooting requires talent and a fine level of execution, the execution is not always dependable (even elite shooters can have off nights). But, given his base level of talent, he can impose his will offensively in and around the paint without the same need for touch as an outside shot.

Totally agree but I’m just saying he gets to the rim with ease. You said it was more effort than ability and I’m agreeing but saying it is both. He has great ability.

And I agree back. My OP was intended to be evocative rather than concrete regarding that point.

Good point about Geo. If he can step up his D like he did 2nd half and penetrate a dish, then he can still be a major contributer to the team's success when he's off shooting. Needs to focus on bringing that aspect regardless of whether his shot is falling or not

Geo up top with the ball and Paul on the wings and those corner 3's. Offense just flows better when Geo is running the show vs Paul up top

Geo needs to create points, whether or not he scores them. They can be via assists or by helping us to increase our number of possessions. When he shoots well, that's even better. But not necessary

Geo had 7 assists yesterday. If he and Paul can combine for 13 assists per game we will win a lot of games.
That’s because they got the ball to the right guy too. RHJ was on fire and they fed the fire. Maybe it will be Cliff next game. Feed the guy who’s putting the ball on the hole and play good Defense.

I've been a bad observer of Hyatt focusing too much on whether or not his shot is falling.

Yes on Hyatt.
