The question is why was he hired? Coaching nowadays reminds me of the dot com boom. If you had a semi-decent idea, you could get venture capital, create a startup, get tons of press, fail miserably and leave behind a shell of a building, along with 100's of laid off former employees. THEN, you were a proven entrepreneur and CEO and more likely to get someone to give you a shot at doing it again. Then when the bust came, many of these "visionary" CEO's got C-level jobs at stable companies because of their experience. In other words, NOTHING about Will's head coaching record indicates that he is any good at it, but he got hired because he has experience and a name. Talent is optional...

Good analogy, and I’ll say that college football isn’t alone in this regard. However, a league like the NBA is different to me because at the end of the day, NBA coaches are responsible for little more than calling time outs and substitutions. In college football, you have to be skilled in a variety of areas, and I agree that Muschamp has yet to prove he’s even competent in most of them.

I’ll also mention that while he’s definitely a solid step ahead of Muschamp, I’m not at all sold on Kiffin either. I think he’s good in certain areas, but as an overall ball coach, I just don’t know. Guess we’ll see how it plays out

I've wondered about that ever since the day he was hired. The guy managed to turn Florida into a .500 program in only 4 years. Not sure how that gets you another SEC job so quickly.

Oof, thats a headscratcher of a statement.
Managing 15 talented players- their mental health, their physical health, their attitudes and outlooks, their personalities, etc is just a bit more than calling time outs and substitutions. Then there is managing the coaching staff and connected staff.
It is a continual job of delegating(to the right person), planning, implementation, and review all while managing actual people with lives/concerns/fears/issues.

Ray Tanner is a bad AD. Muschump is a bad head coach. Both promoted beyond their abilities.

Joe Moorhead, Charlie Strong, Derek Mason, etc. It happens. We will see on John Cohen soon enough. He better be cheering for Leach.
