Refs should have called something on the instigator from Indiana as well.

Refs handled that poorly... the instigator got off scot-free.. he was basically trying to knock Mulcahy off his feet.

Yeah, Mulcahy reacted poorly with the gorilla arm swing as if he was not in control because he was knocked off-balance. That read like premeditation to me.. like he had to think about a way to get away with it... I do not think it was a level-2 infraction.. there is too much emphasis on hands to head.. no way that player was harmed and he acted like he got knocked out.. it was a slap, and a weak one... not a punch.

Don't start Mulcahy vs PSU and make that his penalty.

Also.. teammates shave his head... buzzcut is enough.

I don’t really care about the prior 4 right now and that’s not an excuse for his behavior tonight.

He almost cost the team. I care about the team, not Paul’s ego getting hurt by a hard foul.
But you’re ignoring the fact that the last 4 wouldn’t matter for the team without the previous 4 from that

He nearly cost us the game and the tournament tonight with his actions.

He rarely backs down bigger defenders- only does that on smaller guys. And he’s good at it. Not sure if we’re watching the same games.
When Paul is playing poorly, he does it a bunch. I never actually looked at the size of the players but he's doing it against post players so I'm pretty sure it's a size mismatch for him. When he's in the flow and dishing the ball, he's fantastic.

I’m not ignoring anything. He’s a part of the team and was very helpful to the team in those games.

His whining for the past week and throwing a punch/getting ejected tonight were detrimental to the team, and the latter is the subject of this thread.

You do not need to defend him after that pathetic display. He’s not bigger than the team, regardless of his contributions to date.

Almost, but didn't. Maybe his teammates had his back and found a way to win. Great game & better ending.

Nobody should be more relieved that they pulled that game out than Paul. Can you imagine the tone of the comments toward him if we had lost? He needs to find a better balance out there with regard to playing with intensity and controlling his emotions.

Lol, yes, let’s just excuse it like we have been since the Michigan game. It’s working well

He did not throw a punch. He did swing his arm as he was getting mugged.
Unfortunately he made contact. But to think this was equal to Juan Howard or Diabate is ridiculous.
No one is saying it’s equal to Howard/Diabate.

IU was called for a foul, so it wasn't exactly scot-free.

Paul was very erratic but it was a hard fought, scrappy and tough game....I'm more concerned about his turning it over but these are huge growing pains for a player Pike and RU has invested a LOT of playing time over the last 3 seasons.

We will need everyone on Sunday and he gets a chance to redeem himself the rest of the way. Chill out on him for now, Hyatt and RHJ bailed us out.
And Cliff

He is the guy on the other team you hate. Happy he is on our team. He makes so many high IQ basketball decisions. He's still a sophomore and his game will only improve. Stupid mistake he made but that's what it was. We won. More on and beat Pedo St like a rented mule.

Everyone has played with or against a Paul Malcahy in their lifetime.

And he really does remind me of Danny Ainge.

The game thread on the Indiana board showed they thought both should’ve been hit with a flagrant before the call was made. I agree. Common foul and then a flagrant one against their guy followed by a flagrant two against Mulcahy.

I guess if he gets suspended then all’s well that ends well is premature maybe. But the kid has got to be really mortified.

Never would have won without him
if the others players played as hard as Paul
We win by 12. The refs were biased against him
also.

C'mon.. this is just a way for Paul-haters to come out of the woodwork again..

..earlier this season...
... I’d say Caleb and Paul are just too limited offensively to contribute meaningfully as starters, and we should have Jones and Hyatt out there (which I think most would agree with). I might even play Mag as 6th man at this point.

Indiana guy drove shoulder into him. Couple of fouls on Paul were really suspect.
Can play on my team any day.

That would have been more fair than what happened. Clearly, the ref who was right there saw who instigated it and got in-between the players. He should have called something on the Indiana guy.. a dead ball foul at a minimum.

KUDOS TO OUR BENCH for merely protecting Paul and not taking swings at the Indiana player... who STILL DESERVES SOME PUNISHMENT. That wasn't basketball.. what he did there... and he did instigate it. He threw a forearm and shoulder while Paul slapped him.

Cliff was big too. Clutch FT’s, a big block and lots of rebounds.
