Mulcahy?

With his length, IQ, passing he has already exhibited he will be a B1G contributor, likely our starting PG for next three years. He is someone you can win with, but needs to work on shot, strength.
Why has his minutes been cut so drastically? These are the games he should be playing in, correct?
He passes up WAY TOO MANY open shots. Even clear lanes to rim. Would rather dish from anywhere on the floor. He's game changing for the other team right now passing up so many open looks. This is his line in 11 minutes last night:

I'm not sure how else any freshman becomes an impact player in a Power 5 conference. He's a player that can make plays, but isn't a shooter and has not shown any ability to defend without fouling or keeping his man in front of him.
If you are not a shooter and are not a potential defender, it's very difficult to see Mulcahy becoming an impact player at this level. His passing ability and IQ and work ethic are top notch, so it remains to be seen if he can improve his shooting enough to become an impact offensive player, to compliment his passing and ability to create offense.
Mulcahy will not be the 1st college basketball player that struggles with defense and shooting as a frosh, but he has a role that this roster needs. Keep in mind we are coming from a point where last November we started 4 players who are in most definitions, not likely starters anywhere else in the B1G, to putting together a roster of sophomores, Mulcahy, Baker and a couple of transfers playing their 1st games at RU. It's highly unlikely that we or the staff has the roles and capabilities figured out in mid November.

The reality is other than Harper we don’t have any catch and shoot perimeter players. What Mulcahy can bring to the table may not help this Rutgers team this year.
Caleb has to be ready to catch and shoot from the perimeter. Right now his shot reluctance is at Issa Thaim level. He is too good of a shooter, I hope, to not be looking to shoot 3s

Yes. It doesn't matter if you're a good shooter if you don't shoot. He has to be less deferential (not sure if this is a word) on offense. Otherwise, you pass it around and then end up with Montez jacking up a three or Young driving into trees.
Not a chance he cannot even come close to guarding an opposing point guard.

He's a freshman. He has a lot of good bb qualities. He need strength and work on his speed. I think he can be very good.
Put me in the camp of Mulcahy believers.
Offensively, his shot looks pretty good to me, he just needs to pull the trigger more. He looks to be a good foul-shooter as well. He has a good handle, great court vision and is an excellent passer.
Defensively he has enough lateral foot speed and length to cover the opposing three spot, or play in a zone. He doesn’t have to cover the opposing point guard. He has shown he can get in position to be a good rebounder. He hustles and is vocal, calling out screens, etc.
He looks like a total team player, a guy who absolutely loves hoops and is very coachable.

PM needs to first develop an intermediate shot otherwise defenders are just going to back off him which will eliminate his great passing ability since they’ll be 5 defenders on 4 players.
Once he develops a shot his height and vision will prove well over smaller guards. Defensively I don’t see him as a fit to chase smaller quicker guard up and down the court. I think he’s actually a better fit to guard small forwards or play wing in zone defense to maximize his height.

True but his shot needs to improve or they’ll just sit back off him and not let him drive and dish. Literally not a shooting threat. That needs to change. I think it can. U know he will work his *** off. Time will tell
