More concerned with benching Jones cause he got a crappy T he probably didn't even deserve. Cause we all know there's no T in Pike and he wants his players to be nice on the court.

Jones came back in and you can’t put your hands on the ref. He did that and even though it wasn’t aggressive, you can’t do it.

Jones did not return after the technical. A freshman playing in essentially his 3rd real game getting a technical is not acceptable, whether you want to argue the merits or not. The ref was right next to him and heard whatever he was saying so no excuse. Sitting him down for the rest of the game was the right lesson. It stinks because I really want to see him get a lot of experience and be a 30 minute a game player sooner rather than later but can't have this.

Why? He was getting shoved by the njit player and he stood his ground. I remember RHJ and Montez Mathis got one early and us fans were loving that we finally stood up for ourselves.

Sorry. I like players who don't take crap. Not like he started a fight or anything. I'm not saying dont pull him maybe a possession later . And geo was right there in his face right after.

Exactly. I like a bit of edge, and I'll take a T early in his career to teach the lesson of how to get away with having an edge and not getting caught.

I’m happy we played better tonight but I don’t think we are very good. We lost JY and didn’t replace him. Pikiell didn’t account for how much he would be missed. We are also in trouble in rebounding; especially in league play. I’m watching Seton Hall now and they improved big time. Hate to say it but they look much better than us.

That is totally myopic. Like usual the ref always catches the second guy after the NJIT guard bumped him and talked smack first. Yes , Jones shouldn’ Have trashed back but you do not sit him for the rest of the game more than 10-11 minutes. He did not hit any ref so those who said so are seeing things. Pike punished him and the crime did not fit the punishment. Pike should have his assistants have him sit next to them and let them give it to him and then put him back in. Instead he just went to sit down the bench. Bad job by Pike and bad job by the assistants. I was crazy mad especially when Paul and Caleb were having another subpar game.

It happened right in front of me. He grabbed the refs forearm. It’s a T every time at every level

I didn't see him do that. If he did my bad. I just saw him keep walking forward.n
Yeah the ref puts his hands on Jones to keep him from mixing it up with the NJIT player who fouled him. Jones just pushed his arm off him as he moved forward. Nothing bad but he can’t do it.

You could see the t coming from a mile away. He had time to correct his behavior and he chose not to. Immediately gave away 2 points. Hurt the team. He needed to learn the lesson and hopefully won’t repeat the mistake.

Sounds like some great coaching by Pike tonight with the young fella, by sitting him the rest
Of the game!

I support Pike 100 % in this decision.

Mulch gets a ton of open shots near the basket - they just aren't falling for him - but he is getting them. Definitely ok with Pike sticking with him. McConnell on the other hand is a different story.
Paul had many shots that just missed, while I think McConnell had more airballs than balls that hit the rim or went in.

No problem with the way Pike handled situation. That being said, ref put up his forearm to separate Jones and he casually moved ref forearm away as he moved forward.

Learning experience for him. Also, like that Paul is not hesitating in taking shots but not a fan of him bringing up the ball. He’s not a threat to push the ball the length of court. Don’t mind him handling in half court settings and prefer him at wing. Caleb and Paul were brutal in shooting today but they should improve. Thought Caleb was worse because of horrid shots but he was actually better % wise (3-10) than Paul (2-10).

Team no where near its peak and needs to continue improving.

Noticed Paul’s fingers are taped together again. Not sure if they were taped the whole game, but maybe throwing him off?

McConnell’s defense was important. We had to stop #2 and he did it.
This is what most are missing. For all the destruction on the offensive end stopping this guy from scoring 40 really helped us win. Can anyone else do this? It will come up on almost a nightly basis in B1G. If the answer is no you are getting 32 MPG from Caleb.

One of Rutgers biggest problem on offense is the inability to make shots within 5 feet of the basket. In every game so far against mediocre opponents Rutgers must have missed at least 10 of those close to the basket shots.Against better competition those missed shots will result in losses. The poor 3 point shooting is more a recruiting issue for next season.

“He beats people off the dribble all the time.”
I agree, and I don’t understand how people could have missed that he beats people off the dribble in the half court. He just hasn’t finished. On the other hand, the other point from the OP, that he had trouble bringing the ball up the court last night, is correct.

I'll buy this if that's what happened.
agree with you he didn't touch the referee he just seemed to be walking up the court unless he said something to me there was no reason for the T and he certainly needed to come back in the game

I have it recorded and will have to re-watch but if the other poster said it happened right in front of him and he did. BTN+ isn't giving you all the angles. The student broadcasters mentioned the talk and nothing about contact.

But I also so there was no need for the ref to put his hands on Jones there either. He wasn't making an overly aggressive move towards the guy who shoved it out of bounds. That was my issue with the coaching reaction. There are different kinds of T's. That's a talk and a teach moment . Not put him in the doghouse one. But I've said my piece.
