If the spreadsheet is true and it can be proven to the NCAA that Bam took money, then he is ineligible. That's just the truth of the matter. We may have to forfeit the wins from the 16-17 season, it just is what it is. The important thing is that our staff wasn't involved and there will be no penalties or sanctions moving forward.

When did the agent give him the money? If he loaned him the money after the season last year, it wouldn't affect his eligibility.

Don't be naive. This isn't much ado about nothing. It's a systematic failure, and we aren't alone, but the only way we come out fine with this is if they treat it like steroids in baseball. It was so widespread that they just accept it as a stain on the sport and move on.

But look at this objectively for a second. In the whole time that Cal has been here, who would you say were the biggest "surprise" recruits that we got? Is it just a coincidence that list would be very similar to the list of players that came out today?

I know the vast majority on here will bury their heads in the sand and try to rationalize the situation, as every other fanbase does when it's program gets busted. But ignoring reality doesn't change reality.

Hey, if this means we can wipe out that Luke Maye shot, I'm good with it.

I’ve already accepted we are vacating last season. I’ll wait for the facts to come out but it doesn’t look good. I trust our staff wasn’t involved bit that doesn’t matter as far as Bam’s eligibility.

Disappointed in Bam if true, but mostly disgusted at the agent.

It happens everywhere, we've all seen the pictures of the cars at the player's dorm. Maybe the crooked NCAA will finally realize that the players deserve it.

Weak, weak sauce. Noel got a loan 2 yrs after he left UK, not while he was a recruit. Knox MAY have had a lunch. Bam is the only one that fits your little narrative.

That's true, and I really hope that's the case. I personally haven't looked through the documents that Yahoo released so I don't know if the transactions are dated or not, but I read somewhere that there was a date for Bam's loan and it was for when he was in high school. There are still a lot of facts to come out so there is no need in worrying about potential penalties yet.

Noel's loan was outstanding 2 years after he left UK. We don't know when it was made.

We also don't know if it's real.

if he took it before the season, surely during his recruiting we would ask if he took any money or benefits from an agent, and if we did ask and he lied that is shameful. but I am very curious about the timing

We don't know anything yet. This might be something and it might be nothing. It's a little dangerous to start making determinations right now. There is almost certainly a lot of college athletes that have been receiving "loans" from agents. It's probably a lot of schools involved. Whether or not we are one of them is not clear at this point.

The one thing we can take comfort in is that it is very unlikely that Cal was involved so severe sanctions are unjustifiable. Worst case scenario is we might have to vacate games but those games are directly corresponding to two of the worst years Cal has had. Our final fours and titles are not in question. That's not going to be true of Duke, Kansas and so on. Also this is the one good thing about the one and done thing. If any of those listed actually did accept improper gifts the damage will be isolated to one season.

I'm not. Supposedly his family was very poor. If I'm a 17 yr old kid and some agent wants to loan me enough scratch to let my family scrape by until I make the NBA, I am not thinking twice about it. Not saying it's right, but when you are in that situation, having your family suffer in poverty isn't right either.

Fair point. I’d like to think I’d choose a different path but that’s just me speaking from a spoiled middle class perspective.

Why would Noel get a small loan 2 yrs after he left Ky?
He was a multi-millionaire then.

Why the hell would Noel need a loan two years out of college? It’s not like he was hurting for money. Especially a measley 4 grand.

He might have taken one immediately following the season (as lots of players do) and not paid it all back by 2015.

The "Bam entry" doesn't mean he or his family got any money. The way the agents work, is to pay as many influencers as possible. "Bad loan" means whoever they paid, didn't come through. Right now, we don't know what it meant, and may never know. Now, they find an entry in Momma Bam's bank account for $48k, then we are vacating last season.

I've mentioned this a few times today, but this is too easy not to keep bringing up...

When did the NCAA rule on vacating the 2014-2015 Kansas season?

Cliff Alexander played 28 games that season after his family took out loans in August. If nothing happened there, why should it here?

Then the Lance Thomas deal takes the cake, of course. Considering his loan from the jewelry story came while playing for Duke. During a Title season, no less.

Not sure why we should expect to be treated differently. The harshest penalty should have been for Duke, but they got nothing. This seems more like the Alexander deal at this point than any other. Which again, was a big nothing.

Noel signed with Andy Miller so it's likely he had business arrangements with him after he left UK. For that reason I don't see any problems with Noel. Knox's situation sound very unserious. Maybe he'll have to sit a game or two but that's it. Bam is the only thing that we should be concerned with.

The problem is they don't penalize UK like they do other schools. It's like they use a shot gun to shoot flies.

We'll see. If we play it right I doubt it amounts to much.
