MT Airy at North Surry

MaxPrep signed out final by mistake with 5 min remaining and MA scored again, scored a 72-yard TD and it was the 1st time the player had touched a ball on Varsity. Score 46 -18 .

I will say I think Jackson Smith is going to turn NS around this year they played there *** off tonight and any team that faces them from here on out should beware
I went to the game and I would agree wholeheartedly. That is 100% turnaround. An attitude etc. No sorry definitely the second best team in that conference there's no doubt about it. It looked like Mount airy was using five defensive backs to stop the passing game and could not stop the run for a while. They must have took that guy off him. I guess they were trying to guard the Lynch kid who didn't do much but the Simmons kid did although really once again Mount airy has a tremendous amount of penalties that keeps the other teams in the game. Pretty ridiculous. Late head on the quarterback. Tackling a guy who fair catches the ball. Tell you one thing I noticed was they are fast holy cow are they fast. Regardless North played their tail off. Going to be a good one next week. I think North plays West Stokes too so that'll be a good one as well.
Hell of a coaching job by Jackson Smith and hats off to MA coaches made good adjustments. Got some injuries few with growing pulls. East Surry will be tough.
Start of second half was brutal with injuries. Mostly cramps. Dont know if it is a hydration issue or stretching before returning. Under classes came up big in second half. Backup qb seemed to ignite the team.
Very proud of the fellows last night. Everyone counted us out for ages before the first kickoff, but the kids have been at a different level all week. They have been focused more than ever. It showed. It was the hardest we've played MA across the board in a while and it was fun to watch. MA had to wake up and fight their way back in it. It was a game they needed because they won't face that very much come Northwest time. Won't be surprised if they remember this come November to improve their focus.
These guys have been fun to watch since the first day of hitting; they flipped the switch and played hard that night and i felt we scrimmaged very well at South 2 weeks back. I kept quiet because one I didn't wanna jinx them and two I wanted to see them prove theirselves and we did it solidly. This was the best effort I've seen in an opener in a long time and maybe ever, this is my 15th one. I had a lot of fun as a result. Getting to sit on the home side was a nice twist and made it more fun. Our old box is dead and buried lol.
Love the offense we run (still got to work on passing it, QB is a rookie and it was his first start. It coulda backfired but he handled himself well.) Defense has a new DC for the first time in 7 years and he's getting his grove but he's got a lot out of the kids. It's a lot different but it's been a fun journey.
Just gotta find consistency and continue to evolve. The next two weeks will be interesting for that reason but I like how it's set up. Ready for next Thursday and Friday already.

North Surry was a good game to help Mount Airy find their groove. North Surry never gave up and fought until the game was over. If they improve and get it together I can see them ending their season in 1st or 2nd place in their conference. Best of luck to those Greyhounds for the next 9 games and go deep in the playoffs ! ! ! NS played the best game last night since the 2015 season when MA won by 1 point, 16-15, or 2019 losing by 57-38. Go win your season.

Well first, I believe it was proved that I am not a Dumbass idiot! (That is what one posting friend on here labeled me after I posted concerns about Mt Airy. LOL)
What I saw at the Wythe scrimmages was pretty much spot on. Mt Airy has some real areas of concern, maybe not against the conference teams but against the better teams, those areas of concern were exposed last night.
Speaking of better teams, North Surry is certainly one of them! They absolutely dominated much of the game last night. Their coaching staff had them primed and ready to play the game from the start. They have talent, size, heart, and desire.
In my opinion, the main problem (not the only area) that was exposed last was Mt Airy's ability and willingness to shoot themselves in the foot over and over and over. Late hits, flags away from the play, etc that kept North on the drive or stupid crap that brought back our own TD's or killed big plays.
If this was the typical first game, ok we will learn. But it was not just a first game, it was a continuation of what ended last year's playoffs. I do not know what the coaches are saying but somehow, someway they need to get this crap stopped or it will bit us again.

Can Mt Airy stop people from changing? Overall, Mount Airy has all it requires to run well. If Mt Airy Coaches, who I think are very wonderful, don't use a play from their playbook, programs will absolutely choose us apart. Mount Airy will continue to house the trophy. After all, Mount Airy has just about eight seniors on the squad.
