JC came to the realization that too many fans had lost interest in the program to move forward with JoMo and the decision was ultimately made for him even if he still had a glimmer of hope that Joe might pull it out.

I think it was a combination of him genuinely caring about Joe & his family, but having just come from having to fire the guy, and being passionate about our university, with those feelings combining and bubbling up to the surface.
