I think the Spartans will put up points, and that it will take some time for the NU front seven to adjust. I also think that Hull has a 100 yard game and we see breakout games from Robinson and Kirtz, pull out the W, and put the conference on notice that we have a notable aerial threat for the first time since the Austin Carr era.

This season could go any number of ways so I'm rolling with my gut.

Completely unpredictable first-half, especially the first quarter. Both teams have a little bit of trouble settling into any kind of rhythm. However, the Wildcats are more disciplined and the defense, which is always ahead of the offense, settles down in the second half the throttle the Spartans. Northwestern offense organizes itself enough to pull out a win. Final score MSU 17, CATS 28
The defense carries the day as the sky team picks off 2 in the 2nd half.The offense is steady and the Cats prevail 24-16.The Cats sit atop the west after week one,and all Wildcat fans enjoy a happy and well deserved Labor Day weekend.

I suspect the Berts will drop out of first long before HAT. Or do you mean the overall record with them?
I think he means all time record, and if so I believe he is mistaken. When we win this year, we will be tied for overall record
When we beat them this year the overall record will be 55-55-5.Just trying to have a little fun with the Bert’s being tied after week one.They will be well out of the west race long before our November game.The HAT stays in Evanston another year.

Cats’ defensive line is a significant upgrade over last year’s, offsetting the inexperience at LB. MSU will also have no film of whatever changes are being made to the Cats’ base defense while starting a relatively inexperienced QB. I would expect the Spartan offense to struggle and give NU a number of short fields. While the NU offense will be maddening at times, they will cash enough gifts to make it a 2 score win.
Even with last year’s Maryland game still giving me the warm fuzzies, I hate first games because of the rust and confusion. I hope the Cats play like they did last year v. Maryland and against Stanford in 2015, and not like they did against Stanford in 2019.

Our defense looks stacked, but it's possible that our offense is dreadful this year. The right side of the line is a concern, question marks at RB/ receiving TE / WR, and we're banking on Johnson being ready this time.
The potential is there; we have some good athletes. The future is bright even if this game goes awry.
