Big Ten West finishes its fourth consecutive winning bowl season:
  • 2015-16: 3-2
  • 2016-17: 3-2
  • 2017-18: 4-0
  • 2018-19: 4-1
That's 14-5 over the past four years. Yes, they haven't played the top competition, but I think we can put to rest the idea that the division is "bad." It has no marquee programs, but it has several good programs. For Nebraska, that means we don't have an insurmountable peak to climb, but it means we'll have to scramble over a lot of bodies to get there.

Except for Sparty every East team played in a better bowl game.. you could say the Citus and Outback are close but the Citrus has the higher rated team both in the top 14..

I’ll take finishing the regular season and post season with wins, momentum is momentum baby!
Of course. That goes without saying. Unless you don't immediately grasp the obvious. I live in Iowa, so I fully understand that you need to say it. On a Nebraska board. When we lost our final game and didn't go to a bowl. Thanks for the reminder, Brad. And I'm not your baby. ;)

I wouldn't say Kentucky was a helluva a lot better than Miss. State this year. Penn State looks as if they forgot to get out of bed so far today. I think any of the West bowl teams, outside of maybe Purdue, could beat Michigan State right now. Those guys can't get out of their own way on offense. Pathetic, and especially so since they have a lights-out defense. The West has done very well — probably weren't clear favorites in any of the five games and actually were underdogs in a couple.

Agreed, but UK did beat MSU 28-7.

True of course, but the West teams were underdogs in every game and still went 4-1. Michigan, PSU and OSU were the B1G teams favored. Michigan got rolled and PSU down 13 in the 4th.

They did, but their overall record wasn't much better. Purdue beat the piss out of Ohio State, too. Northwestern played Kentucky in the Music City last year, and they weren't all that much. I accept that they could have improved significantly this year, but they're still mostly Snell and a cloud of dust. They're taking it to Penn State, and the Lions are not responding. It will feed the SEC legend and, frankly, deservedly so. I think everyone outside of the SEC is tired of the SEC, but we're going to keep hearing it until we actually start beating the SOBs.

PSU Did not do themselves any favors by starting off with a fake punt on the very first possession of the game. Other than their starting quarterback going out Dave seem like a competent team aside from that Mike Tomlin style decision the start of the game

Exactly crying about playing 9 games to their 8 is going to fall on death ears till the confernce beats them more than one out of 4 games..

Not to mention playing FCS schools in the second to last weekend of the season.

How did Iowa win that game?

-14 yards rushing

1-of-11 on third downs

11 total first downs

just 200 total yards

They played great defense and got some HUGE turnovers and a big long pass play. That MSU defense was salty as well. Most points for both teams were on short fields due to turnovers.

I know how they did it, it was a rhetorical statement to begin with. Pretty silly to see those stats written out and yet win the game.

MSU had their chance with a ridiculous bobble/drop in the end zone that Iowa picked off.

A win is a win. At least Iowa showed up today instead of some of the pitiful performances from the rest of the B1G.

Yeah. I figured I wasn't saying anything you didn't know. I guess it just goes to show there are lots of ways to win a football game. Ugly win beats a pretty loss although I do enjoy great defense. Two strong defenses but MSU had all the penalties too.

I'm guessing they ride that momentum to an eight-win regular season. Oh, and "very good" teams don't go 4-4 in the conference. They don't go 5-4 or 3-6, either.
8 game regular season? Nebraska would give their left nut for that. What do you have, that many in the last two seasons combined? :)

Big east you mean? Sure wish the west didn't have to carry the rest of the conference and the east would start holding up their end and quit being overrated. Lol

You do realize Iowa’s OOC schedule is tougher than Nebraska’s in 2019 don’t you? On paper anyways.
That's interesting, and probably true.
  • Certainly on the road at ISU is a bit tougher than on the road at CU, especially given that both the Hawks in Ames and NU in Boulder will have sizable followings.
  • Home against Miami, Ohio versus home against South Alabama? Both sucked, so saying Miami is marginally better than South Alabama is the difference between a 35-point and a 42-point win. Both easy pickings.
  • Home against Middle Tennessee versus home against Northern Illinois? Hmmm. MTSU won its division in probably the ninth-best conference in the country, maybe the 10th (the Sun Belt has improved a great deal.) NIU is the champion of the eighth-best conference.
So, in the end, Iowa probably has the greatest challenge, but it's slight shades of difference. Both teams, if they hope to have a successful season, should win all three to establish success early, something we (NU) have struggled to do in the recent past.

I fully expect Nebraska to be 3-0 going into conference play. Iowa has a different story. Rutgers at home week 2 and get an extra week to mesh before going to Ames week three. Then a bye before Middle Tennessee State. Starting 4-0 is possible but a trip to Ames will be tough.
