I guess Mike Leach watched film and didn't like what he saw. Paul says we are in the top 2 with Oregon for Anthony Brown, Boston College QB, who only played in 6 games last season due to an injury.
Stats:
2019: 1,250 yards 9 TD's/2 int's 81 comp/ 137 attempts
2018: 2,121 yards 20 TD's/9 int's 158 comp / 285 attempts
2017: 1,367 yards 11 Td's/ 9 int's 134 comp / 258 attempts

New coach, apples to oranges, could be a different deal. I still contend Stevens wasn’t perfect but he wasn’t the problem with our offense, Moorhead was.

After reading “Swing your sword” by Mike Leach I trust him 100% when it comes to evaluating QB’s. Some fans will be outraged if we bring another grad transfer QB in after tommy Stevens but Mike Leach is looking for a particular kind of QB to run his offense and that guy might not currently be on our roster, idk.

Interesting choice going after the BC QB. BC was a very, very run heavy team last year. That said, I know nothing about Brown's skill set.

All three of MSU's QBs (KT, Mayden and Shrader) are higher ranked.

Based on what? Recruiting rankings? Brown has started 28 games for a program that was in a bowl game every year he was there, and has 47 career total touchdowns. Shrader, KT, and Mayden combined have only a fraction of those numbers.

Brown would be far more proven than Stevens was, who had never played just a ton at Penn State. There are still concerns with Brown, namely the fact that he’s torn his ACL twice. But if Leach believes he’s better than what we have on the roster, why would you not pursue him?

Leach didn’t recruit any of our returning QBs and it’s debatable at best whether any of them fit his offense. I don’t see a big issue with getting a grad transfer QB.

Leach has a pretty easy pitch in comparing QB transfers under him vs Moorhead. Lightly recruited Gardner Minshew from a small program vs Tommy Stevens from a traditional powerhouse. Results speak for themselves.

BC's #1 running back ran for more yards after the QB was injured (around 900 of his 1685 total) but he also ran for 1108 in 2018 and 1589 in 2017.

I contend, those WR's can be better if trained properly

We will see how it turns out. Hopefully he can bring a few pass catchers with him too

I believe many of those WR's are on the roster already. We have never focused on WR training like Leach does. There are some good WR's on this roster now that will work our nicely. Plus, he will draw more here.

This guy is different, you won't even recognize them as being the same players. The results will be different.

It's hard to imagine that our receivers could be so bad for so long without at least part of it being a coaching issue. Isiah Zuber was a pretty good receiver until he transferred to MSU.

He has to regret coming here so much.

If KT is Leach’s starter, then Schrader is not and vice versa. However, of those 2 staying and not transferring, only KT is likely to change positions. Schrader will be a QB, either here or somewhere else. KT might have to transfer “down” a level to play a position he will not have a chance to make it in the NFL at.

Now, bring in this BC guy, or any other QB, and the die has been cast for KT as to ever playing QB at State. If that guy were to beat out Schrader, then Schrader can a) transfer and sit out, or b) stay and redshirt a year.

As for Mayden, he has one shot, in Spring practice, to show he is better than all of them.

Rogers is going to redshirt to gain weight, strength and muscle.

Our QB room:

Garrett Schrader - 4 star Dual threat
Kaeyton Thompson- 4 star Dual threat
Jalen Mayden- High 3 star Dual threat
Will Rogers- High 3 star Pro Style

Probably the highest rated combined QB depth we have ever had , and the true freshman may be the only one that fits what a Leach wants to do.

Oh I am sure they will improve. I read something about them using a pitching machine and catching tennis balls. But still he ran 11 receivers in and out of the games last year. Not sure we have 11 on the roster...lol

Wow. Imagine Shrader losing his job to this bum. I’m not worried about it tho. Imagine a NJ guy choosing starksville over Eugene.

Wow. Imagine a fan insulting a guy our new head coach is recruiting to join the team. Why would you be worried? Are you Garrett Shrader or his family? A lot of you need to be Mississippi State fans first and the individual player’s fans second. There is going to be a lot of unnecessary uproar if Shrader doesn’t win the QB battle this Spring. Get over it and trust your new head coach.

Not sure it really mattered how good Stevens was. He couldn't stay on the field anyway because he was an injury waiting to happen at any time.

Where does Leach rank them? Not trying to be a dick to you at all but I value Leach’s opinion on QBs more than the Rosebowls of the world.

Which one of them is most accurate? Accuracy & decision making >>>> arm strength & size, when it comes to Leach.

And, he couldn't care less about star rankings either. The highest ranked QB Leach brought in took a seat behind a walk on (Luke Falk) at WSU.

At the risk of eventually looking more foolish than normal, I think Mike would be best to work with what he has here next year at QB. Optics on bringing in yet another QB from afar won't be good and will somewhat shorten his leash in their mind. I also think that Mike Leach likely doesn't much care what anybody thinks and is going to live and die doing whatever he thinks is best. I can respect both sides.

Sorry, but I disagree. Football is very much a team sport. Stevens walks in the door, with no history with the team, and is supposed to be a leader- the QB, no less- on day 1? He had no clue. He was always an outsider. I'm not sure how this guy would be any different.
Unless if it's Joe Burrow, and then it works itself out. Haha

He said he would look at the portal and if he could improve he will. I just don't think this is the guy he would want. 40 touchdowns , 20 interceptions and 55% completion. But he might see something there. I sure ain't a QB guru.

Fans need to start accepting the reality of the transfer portal. Especially at the QB position.

Leach hasn't evaluated any QB yet, and has said as much, in that he will know in the spring. In the meantime, why would he not get another QB to transfer here to compete for the job? It means nothing. That's why it's important for the transfer to do his homework before he decides where to go, because any coach worth his salt is going to bring in whomever he can, and the best one will get the job. Coaches like to win, btw.

QB depth was an issue this season. I expect depth to be an issue next season. Bringing in an extra arm even if just for depth is very smart.
