Stadium reviewed NCAA FY18 financial reports for 50+ FBS schools and compared money spent on football recruiting to 2018 & 2019 recruiting rankings. We get a mention as getting a lot of bang for the buck, landing the 27th and 24th classes for a paltry $453k spent on recruiting. For comparison, UNC spent just shy of $1M to land the 20th and 32nd classes, and Mississippi spent $700k to land the 32nd and 22nd. Kansas spent $1.1M to land at 60th and 68th. Ouch.
NOTE: These figures do not account for money paid to players, handlers, preachers or ladies of the night. Obviously (see Ole Miss).
Granted, there's probably a lot of variation in how schools are recording recruiting vs non-recruiting spend, but let's assume it's directionally accurate. While I appreciate that our money is being utilized efficiently, surely we can step it up in terms of spending. Could another half million for support staff and expenses get us consistently into the very low 20s to high teens?
