Embarrassing for such a top program of yesteryear. Will that name be on their jerseys? How desperate is that athletic dept for money?? Izzo buyout that the fans were yelling for in beginning of year?

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey—Piscataway/New Brunswick campus Scarlet Knights presented by Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner, and Smith. And that’s the end of the first half.

Hold my beer.

At UCLA each men's basketball head coach is The Michael Price Family UCLA Men's Head Basketball Coach.

For example: "UCLA Director of Athletics Dan Guerrero has named Mick Cronin as The Michael Price Family UCLA Men's Head Basketball Coach."

They are not the only school to do that either.

These days, with so many schools having lost so much money due to covid-19, I'm not surprised to see some schools sell a presenting sponsorship for on-campus purposes.

Some schools have sold game sponsorships. "Tonight's game is brought to you by (company name here)! And that company dominates in-arena advertising that night.

Don't they have an alum from their 2000 team that founded a separate mortgage company?

"The Rocket Mortgages are up 3 at the half"

or perhaps they will run promotions were the points you pay on your mortgage are set by the winning point margin last game.

This reminds me of when Prince changed his name to just a symbol after initially changing it to The Artist Formerly Known As Prince... but everyone still called him Prince. People will still call them the Michigan State Spartans. What a joke, haha.

Will TV announcers have to say it, just like they have to say the sponsor name arenas and stadiums? Or is this just for the local venue public address system?

Hm.. Rocket mortgage advertises on BTN quite a bit... I suppose that's part of the deal.

Hmm, there we have it. I'll be shocked if the BIG TEN and NCAA says a word to discourage this...In the words of the now infamous tweet by Geo..."and we still "amateurs""

Not sure about the 2000 team alum, but they obviously have a billionaire alum who owns/co-owns Rocket Mortgage and Quicken Loans....Dan Gilbert. Also happens to own the Cleveland Cavaliers. I'm going to guess they aren't turning down anything he decides to give them, lol.

This reminds me of when I was in Little League back in the day...we were the Bob's Barber Shop Ravens one year.

Thanks Bob...those post-game trips to Carvel were a blast! Thankfully we won a lot more than we lost...lots of ice cream that season!

This is a conspiracy by the advisors and uncles of Rocket Watts, who are setting the kid up for a huge sponsorship payday.

This is the best and craziest part of this. Rocket Mortgage is in a war of sorts with UWMC Mortgage. UWMC's CEO played for Izzo.

I don't think this is a joke, just the market at work. Smart colleges will monetize anything someone is willing to pay a high enough price for. Why not the name? Now there is such a thing called NFT's, Non fungible Tokens. My limited understanding of them are is people pay REAL money for a "token" or the rights to own some Items that normally have no monetary value and you own the rights to that thing. For example, Jack Dorsey, Founder of twitter is selling his first tweet. Since you cannot actually own the tweet, my understanding is the person who buys it, last bid was over $2MM, They get to do whatever they want with the words. They can print them and make it into art work which they can sell.
So back to MSU why not sell the name. If someone is going to give them enough money why the hell not. By the way my Brotherskinny handle will up for sale on a NFT as soon as I can figure out how to set it up.

What Prince did was bold.

He stood up to his record label bosses, who trademarked his birth name and wanted to limit how frequently he released albums, and fought for not only artistic control but personal freedom.

"The Artist Formerly Known As Prince," often shortened to "The Artist" was a reference to how Prince and other performers were known on their record label contracts.
