Recruiting locally is great. So much talent in the state but the problem is it’s spread out. So we have athletes who are dominant and they may play against 1 or 2 talented players a year. So they go through the motions most of the time because they are superior. Now imagine that these same athletes practice against way weaker athletes every day so they can slack and still look amazing in high school.
The point is we have a class of athletes that feel entitled. Now imagine a coaching staff that is player friendly and you have the season we had last year. You can’t win in the SEC without athletes that are hungry, that have a chip on their shoulder. We recruit talented athletes but instead of pushing them the last few years we trusted their work ethic. Screw that ! Hold talented athletes to a level they never thought was possible. They become better because they are challenged.
The big boys recruit the same type players but they also bring in guys that lined up everyday and competed against other D 1 athletes in practice and games.
We have as talented athletes as anyone in the country but we just have to work them, humble them and show them this ain’t an easy level of football. Push them don’t friend them.
I felt Moorhead did that and that’s why effort was never consistent. Screw that demand excellence or get them the hell out of the program. No reason to ever see half *** effort from a SEC caliber player.
I hope and believe Coach Leach pushes an effort we haven’t seen consistently for that last few years.
Sorry to ramble. Hail State

Only about 5% of HS Srs playing football actually play college football. If you think those kids don't work their asses off for that, well, you're just wrong.

Not sure all that is true, but MSU definitely needs a hard coach in order to control the team.

There is another dimension to bringing out the best in an athlete. In the military we called it espirit de corps. It's simply group cohesion. It's the glue that makes disciplined teams function through hardship.

And the kids are entitled because the high schools and the recruiting process makes them that way.

There is a big gap between the quality of coaching a high school player gets in the state of Georgia, Florida or Alabama compared to Mississippi....
