Can anyone from the coast confirm this? Headed down there in the morning for the day. Definitely not like how we do OB but we do like do walk the beach for a few mins.

Do you know what you call a person that is swimming in the Mississippi Sound? A tourist.

I once told that joke to Musgrove’s head of tourism and a few more staffers. The staffers laughed. The head of tourism did not.

Does anyone ever get in the water on the MS coast anyway? My college roommates were from Long Beach. They drove to Alabama to go to the beach.

We’d get in the water when I was little. Haven’t gotten in it in 25 years. I take my kids sometimes to just walk or do sand stuff. The boardwalk area is pretty neat when the homeless people don’t overtake it.

This has happened a couple times in recent memory. idk what it means other than we’ll stay even further away from the water

Go walk the beach and enjoy. The Coast is a nice place to be right now. We just don’t think about the beachside water that much.

To answer your question, yes this is legit. My agency does Beach Monitoring and the testing.

I have wade fished, swam, eaten raw oysters from the sound my whole life and never gotten sick or gotten cancer or anything. I am 70yrs old and still wade fish the Ms beaches. My buddies will be down Sunday and will be wade fishing off the beaches.

The barrier islands trap the sediment from the Mississippi River in the sound, including the stretch of the river called Cancer Alley. Make of this what you will.

Yeah, well there’s plenty of fecal matter in Oxford too.

My wife and I go to the beach in ocean springs all day, one day each weekend as long as the weather is good and get in the water all the time.

Nobody with sense gets in water down there unless you’re off the barrier islands
Let me rephrase what I said earlier.

What I meant was, nobody gets in the water to swim/lounge like you would at AL/FL. Plenty of people get in the water, but it's fishing, etc. Water is dirty, but no more dangerous than any brackish water. Yeah it gets shlt in it from time to time when it rains a lot.

Bottom line is, MS Gulf Coast is a cool place to live, not to vacation. Locals get a boat and go to Ship Island. Any efforts to clean the water to the level of a Gulf Shores or Destin is simply a futile effort. You got two major rivers flowing right into you and converging, it's just what it is.
