Having himself a breakout season and making himself some good money down the road if he stays healthy.

His path to his peak took longer than some, but he has just gotten slowly better every year since he was a freshman at NU and worked into the ideal playing shape for what he does.

Really enjoying him having success.

I could not understand NU not being able to exploit a rare talent like Odenigbo. I know there will be reasons(excuses) proffered but he was a rare talent for NU . To be used as a situational pass rusher just never seemed to be an effective way to maximize his potential

Huh? He's a great pass rusher, less so a run defender...so why not play him in passing situations? Why wear him out in running situations, playing ahead of better run defenders so that he has to sit out obvious passing downs where he has superior skills?

Just a guess, but I suspect he greatly improved his run defending skills when he had to try out for the Vikings as a DT in 2018. Perhaps he could have received DT training at NU, but he was so skinny (220?) when he came into the program.

He led the conference in sacks in his final year.

From what I’ve heard (which is admittedly very little), he came to NU with very little playing experience as well as a lot of growing to do. He has continued to improve both technique and strength through his playing time both at NU and in the NFL, with his best days still ahead of him.

I took IO two years to get big and strong enough to physically play in the B1G. Relatively a late-bloomer physically. He put it all together his senior year.

As a Bear fan, pulling for anyone on the Vikings is counterintuitive as hell. But in his case, I'll make an exception.

Yes, and thats exactly why OSU doesnt do stupid like you suggested and play chase only every so often. Jeez, Glades, you need "serious work".
Just maybe NU didnt know what to do with him because of all the 5 star talent at LB and DL.

Can Lou cancel this guy. At least the last dozen posts I’ve read are obvious trolls to denigrate NU. No real sign of being a fan or honest discussing.

Im happy for IO. What amazes me is how our fans apologize for not being able to get production from our higher octane recruits.
In 3 years i wouldnt be surprised to see Hunter Johnson in the NFL after NU not being able to give him the offense to excel.

The guy had FOUR sacks at Iowa in our upset win there that turned around our season three years ago so I think they developed him and used him pretty well. Must you turn everything you comment on here into a negative?

You're just doubling down on stupid.

NU put IO in situations to succeed. They developed him from an underweight tweener to the B1G sack leader. Most importantly, he seems a thriving alum who gladly supports the school and his former teammates.

I also seem to remember that NU represented his 3rd yr in football. It is not like he came to NU with 10 years of playing time behind him.

He was first team All Big Ten. Not sure what else he could have done? I don't remember him being drafted though or he might have been 6th or 7th round. Obviously, myself and other NU fans knew he should have been picked much higher and I think the Vikings got a gem the second time around. Can't blame NU for anything, in fact, our DL Coach has been churning out NFL players for a long time. Hell, if I were a DL recruit, I'd come to NU due to the NFL path.

Sorry but I don't think anyone can complain about how Fitz has developed defenders. Don't get that confused with the offensive nightmare.

And in general, they have been undervalued when drafted (or as FA) and tend to outplay the spot they were taken at

Sorry if somebody's already posted this, but there was a great profile of Ifeadi in The Athletic a few days ago. Had some interesting things to say about his time at NU. My favorite part - apparently he stayed up until 3 AM watching Netflix the night before his 4 sack performance against Iowa his senior year.

It makes it seem like he's a guy who's kind of coasted on his incredible athletic talent without ever working too hard. If he gets that work ethic piece in place he could have a hell of an NFL career.

I just read the rest of that article, and it was mostly Ifeadi needing to earn his spot at NU, which bad practices are not going to do. Glad he's finally figuring it out.
