Move away from federal income tax in favor of federal sales tax. Any non-citizens employed in the US have to buy stuff and thus would be paying taxes. I'm sure there are about a million negative unintended consequences in my simplistic assertion, however...

And with 147,000 employees, that doesn't much matter. It amounts to $100/employee per year. Other CEO pay typically scales as well. People who cite CEO pay as a part of the problem are mostly just jealous that one guy makes that much. It's not solving your poverty/living wage issue.

Well - the giveaway isn't going to last forever, and once they're over the employers will likely do their best to not hire those who stayed at home without a very good reason (like childcare). You can't expect to make brain surgeon rates at the McDonald's drivethru.

A vindictive approach to employment is hardly a long term winning strategy.
Companies cut off pay to workers last year thru furlough and cuts. The loyalty didnt universally exist then on the employer's side, so why would you expect loyalty to work to universally exist on the employee's side?

All employers worth a **** should be able to recognize and accept that employees will do what they perceive as the best for them. Its the same with employers- they will do what they perceive is best for them. Overall, there is no actual loyalty on either side because it isnt reciprocated.

There is a potential argument to be made about whether jobs that don't pay a living wage should exist. (i.e. they SHOULD go out of business if their model doesn't support rates of pay that are adequate to live on). Personally, I find it hard to break the circular reference that if minimum wages go way up, then inflation on those things related to that increase goes up, and as the overall cost of living goes up, the purchasing power of the wage earners who just got a raise goes down significantly.

In other words, to the extent that automation can't solve everything, there will always be jobs that aren't worth paying a lot to get done. What the "a lot" is is relative, but it's all tied together.

Fedex is offering up to $19.50/hr at some locations so they are trying. Meanwhile, if minimum wage had kept up with inflation, it would be $11.53 now. In 2020 CEO pay rose 29% while worker pay stagnated. If a company can afford to give it's CEO millions but can't give it's workers pay raises, then it's on the company when they can't get workers.

Nobody would have a job without the CEO because there would be no company. Makes more sense to criticize the pay of professional athletes.

Dude, do you really think that a company exists because of a CEO?!? Come the 17 on. When a CEO leaves, does the company just disappear? Nope- thats because the company can exist without the CEO.
There are some good CEOs, some bad CEOs, and a huge ton of mediocre CEOs. It is extremely difficult for me to see executive compensation for a lot of companies, compare that to historical performance, and say that the continued increase in large compensation is well earned.


Your (incorrect)claim could be easily flipped- Many companies wouldnt be able to exist without employees because no work would be done.
Reality is that both employees and Csuite executives together make a company worth a ****. In general, both rely on the other.

I think that if you replace "CEO" with "Founder/CEO" it gets better. I read his intent as recognizing that often someone has to take a huge personal risk to start a company. Without that someone, said company does not exist. I may be implying wrong intent.

Sure- without a founder, there is no company. I would think most everyone could agree with that.
And Smith at FedEx seems to be a CEO who has been effective.

Rocket claimed people have jobs because the CEO is there. Its a flawed and one sided view of the relationship of labor and business.

I agree with you- it isnt a good idea to offer benefits that exceed what people made while working.

Throwing money at unemployment over the last 15 months has been a bipartisan solution. Its a mistake to try and rewrite history to claim this was a Democratic created issue. Dont do that- we have enough of those posters here.
