Hey Angus .. I'm a So Shore guy after 10 years in Portsmouth . Ky'ian by birth . Lived in town when my kids went to ND . Now we are empty nesters
Ironically I recently moved from Centerville to North Carolina. Asheville to be exact. I'm in love with this place.
That's a pretty crappy list. Skyline Chili is awful. Pretty much every major city on the east coast has better restaurants than that. So it's pretty much just Kings Island, which North Carolina Blue Wildcat will know as "hey its Carowinds but smaller."
I've only ever heard good things about the culture around Asheville. I need to visit there someday on one of my road trips south.
Yeah it is get on 36 to 71 I run transportation in Ohio. I run people from Centerburg MT Vernon, Deleware etc. To Columbus and Riverside hospital your 10-15 minutes from Polaris area where Cabela's, Bass Pro strip clubs bars restaurants etc..
A) Cincy are has a Ton of great restaurants . And I've never heard of a Carowinds but see it 30 acres larger than KI . Why you feel the need to dog the Cincy area ( then praise Ashville ) is beyond me
B) Concerning Ashville - I've been wouldnt go back again no matter how good the craft beer scene is .. and speaking of dining - I dined at a place that was top 5 ranked per TripAdvisor , Tomato something .. and the hippe chick with the dreads and hairy armpits stunk so badly you could smell her before she arrived . And Ashville was full of " free spirits " like that .. basically unbathed humans trying to be cool.
More breweries per capita than any city in the nation. Beer City USA last 3 years but lost to Grand Rapids I believe this year.
Amazing outdoorsman area. Surrounded by national forests. French Broad river. Davidson River. Great trout fishing, biking/hiking trails, beautiful water falls, etc.
40 minute drive from highest point in USA east of the Mississippi.
On all the top 25 lists of best food scenes in the USA.
Biltmore Residence. Largest privately owned house in the USA. Big tourist trap though. Worth checking out once.
Very eclectic hippy town folk who....... lets just say don't share many of the same political beliefs held in the majority of the rest of the south. I personally love this part.
Only problem is cost of living has been going through the roof the last 10 years. Affordable housing is very hard to find.
Oh and practically decriminalized weed if you stay in Buncombe Cointy
I will never leave.

Centerville, Ohio which is very far south in Dayton is at least an hour away from cbus. In fact googlemaps says 1 hour 20 minutes. It kind of scares me you drive for a living and dont know this.........

Great food, beer and scenery. Beautiful area. Over the last few years there are more panhandlers per capita than anywhere I’ve ever been to...can’t enjoy downtown anymore-people begging for handouts everywhere you go. Used to love Asheville, not so much anymore.

Cops have been cracking down on them hardcore this last year. Seems like its all they do. Less beggars/pan handlers now but more buskers/street performers which are fun to watch for the tourists. Personally, they don't bug me enough considering all the plusses to living here for me.

Good luck with the move. I lived in northern Ohio for two years after hs, it was okay. I learned to really hate osu fans during that time though.

Yes, Clearcreek Township. Seems like a really nice area. Everything one would need is within a few minutes.
We moved away from NC area 8 years back because of work, relocated to Somerset KY. Every day is dark and grey in Somerset-nothing to do except work and go to the lake. Was a big adjustment moving from just North of Charlotte to Somerset. Happy to have things to do close by again. Not looking forward to winter though!!!

One thing you learn about living in Ohio is high school football is king. Take some time to go watch some of the high school games.

I was out in Colorado a couple of years ago with some friends driving on the interstate with no other traffic other than a minivan in the left lane maybe a tenth of a mile ahead. Not passing anybody, just hanging out in the left lane.
I made a joke that it must be an Ohio driver and sure enough it was. Don’t understand how most of the state can’t grasp the concept of a passing lane. Ohio drivers are the absolute worst.
Tons of UK fans in SW Ohio. Believe you can see more UK gear than OSU (not to say there are more UK fans...maybe more visible? When football season is over, the OSU gear seems to disappear).

Centerburg is just Northeast of Columbus. Funny I drive around the state everyday since it's my job. 36 to 71 then a 5 minute drive you are at the Polaris exits off 71.
