Paternkofel (also known as Monte Paterno) is a famous 2,744-meter (9,003-foot) mountain in the Sexten Dolomites of northeastern Italy, sitting on the border between South Tyrol and the Province of Belluno.
  • Location: Sexten Dolomites, right next to the iconic Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Three Peaks).
  • First Ascent: Climbed first on September 11, 1882, by mountain guide Franz Innerkofler.
  • World War I: The mountain was a fierce frontline battleground between Italian and Austro-Hungarian troops.
  • Tunnels: Both sides carved strategic tunnels, staircases, and galleries straight into the rock, many of which remain today.

Is that where the BOT hid the statue?

It is anywhere near Florence? I am heading there next month.
Love Florence. I would love to live there for a short time after retirement.

If you get the chance, visit Castello Di Verrazano. Do the wine tasting with lunch. Highly recommended. I spent 12 days in Italy in May, this was far and away the best meal I had while there. Totally unexpected. And my daughter barely ate and would not drink the wine, so, you know……I had to help.
