I most curious on Mcaffrey. I am going to assume they RS him next year. Obviously Martinez is our guy for the next 2 or 3 years. Is he just a back up option? Then maybe have a shot to be the guy his Junior or Senior season? Could he be moved to another position?
Mostly likely option for Mcaffrey ?

We have to have some guys who can push the starter, and so who knows, maybe he could be even better.
I think you try to redshirt him if possible, although I would expect him to be prepared to play if needed (as the #3). According to Verdu, he will be solely a QB, but you never know what will happen 2-3 years down the road so it will always be an option.
He was recruited to play QB. I am
betting the coaches think he is going to be very good at that position. If he is better than the other options after AM is gone, he will play a lot as a QB.

I'm thinking they know QB talent when they see it. Let him get a few years N and be molded. I like this kids Gene's and his moxy.
He is a good enough athlete to change positions, down the road, if he doesn't win the QB job.
Just sign a good QB in every class, and the competition will work itself out in the long run.
I’m more optimistic about McCaffery future compared to Vedral especially 2 years from now..

Once McCaffrey steps on campus, he is instantly the 2nd most physically talented QB on campus. But a rs is a good idea.
This. He comes from a football family so he understands not seeing the field his freshman year is really to his advantage, where as, if some staffs want to RS a recruit he will eliminate that school. McCaffrey will RS and start in the QB room.
Huskers are paper thin at QB. Frost and Coach V have a great history of producing great QB's. Coach V says he is a QB & will stay at QB. I say they know more than we do. In this offense he will play because back up QB's are needed every year.
There's no chance he's not a qb. You need to have at least 4 qb's ready to go at all times. Preferably all 4 are scholarship qb's with maybe a couple extra walk on's providing depth. Our qb depth was one of the biggest things contributing to our disastrous start this year. Our qb depth is going to limit McCaffrey from being anything other than a qb.
Here's the deal with him. He is good enough to be one of the 3-4 best wide receivers on the team when he hits campus in January. So IF he wants to play early, it would open up all kinds of options for you. We've seen Frost run some gadget plays with RB or WR passes. It will be tough to keep him off the field somewhere.
Agree, I don't think Vedral will ever see the field as a starter here. McCaffery will be the #2 maybe as soon as next year.
Maybe so and I agree...all except the WR part. He will be our next QB up after Martinez. Red shirt him and space it out 2 years. That will give him 2-3 years at starting QB for us.
I have no doubt the plan right now is for him to be a starting QB or a back up option. Will McCaffrey want to be a backup for 2 or 3 years? Thats the question. If he is a true competitor he will not want to back up Martinez for long. He will want to see the field asap. At the risk of losing him, I could see him switching to WR if need be down the road.
IF he plays WR, it would be temporary as a way to help the team and get on the field early. IMO it is possible that AM is only going to be at NU for 2 more seasons. The kid has all the tools.
It has nothing to do with how competitive someone is, that's the nature of the QB position. He will most likely redshirt next year and have a great shot at being the guy for two years after Martinez leaves. That's a pretty good deal for a qb at a blue blood program.
Yep and we didnt see his brother bailing on Michigan did we?? I know it’s two different players and such. But they do have the same blood lines. I honestly think he will wait his turn and start at least 2 years at QB

Today after the signing Coach Verdu addressed the rumors that he might be moved to another position. He emphatically said he was recruited as a QB.
At this point I don't think I'd bet any money against Verdu and Frost when it comes to evaluating QB potential.
Agree, If he continues to get better from what we saw this year. He will be 2 more years and NFL. The only way I see him staying all 3 is if and injury happens at some points or if the team has potential to make the playoff his last year and he wants to try and win a NC.

We are not exactly loaded at QB behind Martinez and McCaffery fits the bill perfectly like Martinez does. We get another 4 star QB coming and some of you guys are quick to want him at WR??? Come on now.

I think people are just used to having virtually zero QB depth.
NOBODY is talking about making him a WR permanently. EVERYBODY IS talking about getting his kind of talent on the field in some manner as soon as possible. He played predominately WR in high school until this season. You CAN learn both spots. He's going to know the WR routes anyway as a QB. IF he wants to play early, he would give us a great weapon even if it is only in 4 games.True and fair enough.
