Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Iowa State, TCU and Texas Tech did the Big 12 proud last week. So did, in defeat, Baylor (the ONLY winless Big 12 team) against Duke in a 4-point loss and Texas in an overtime loss to high-ranked Southern Cal. Kansas State losing to Vanderbilt was a disappointment.

It’s looking more and more like WVU will have to battle Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and maybe TCU and Texas Tech, all undefeated, for the Big 12 title.

TCU at Oklahoma State will begin the separating out of the Big 12 powers on Saturday. WVU visits Kansas for another expected victory that won’t help the Mountaineers’ national rankings, just as romping past Delaware State and East Carolina didn’t.

Usually after three games I'd have a good read on how weak/strong teams are in the Big XII. Oklahoma State is the top team at this point with TCU and Oklahoma followed by KSU. Beyond those teams the Big XII is hard to gauge. For example Texas is very capable at beating anybody same goes for ISU and Texas Tech. To be honest with ourselves The Mountaineers only test came against VT and that was a loss. Although I have high hopes for this Mountaineer team it could go either way this season. I'm still of the opinion WVU wins 8-9 regular season game.

Sure, we have a loss (to VaT). However, it is really important to expand consideration into how well we played, how poorly we were treated by the officials, and that we played without two very vital cogs--Simms and David Long. I am among those who believe that the addition of both missing players could well have swung the game in our direction. Simms has shown his worth in the last two games. We can all agree, I would hope, that Long is, potentially, the most valuable defensive player. No team is today what they will be later on the season. Improvements, growth, and key injuries with missed PT will all play a vital part in how teams will look and perform further into the season. despite what the media wishes to push the Big XII is NOT a group of weak teams. With but a couple exceptions, all have serious skill and, when they put it together, wins will come. I truly believe that were we to play VaT with both Simms and Long and all others playing as they did against VaT in the first game we win by 7-10 presuming we do not have the ***-clown from the old Big East doing his predictably poor job behind the whistle.

The most important thing you wrote was that you cannot judge WVU by how it did against Virginia Tech, a game that could have gone either way till the last 2 plays, without Simms and Long, who are with the team now. The playoff committee said it judged Ohio State by the team it was at the end, not the team that lost earlier. If the committee holds WVU to that same standard and the Mountaineers win out -- a major IF -- then WVU should be in the national playoffs.

Kansas St losing to Vanderbilt is terrible. Hope they drop out of top 25 for that embarassing loss, but knowing WVU, we will find a way for Snyder to beat us.

Baylor having no wins is completely inexcusable as well. I guess it shows how much of Baylor's success was completely dependent upon Art Briles.

I agree WVU was capable of winning the VT game. As fans we have the luxury of looking at these games in more detail. The Mountaineers offense played well against a very strong VT defense and was a play or two away from securing a victory. Unfortunately though "talking heads" and the NCAA clown committee don't look at it the same way we do. Just looking at the win/loss records against who were played. Looking at it that way one can only see a loss to VT and two wins against very weak opponents. But I believe as this season plays out The Mountaineers will easily be in the top 15. I also agree that the Big XII is a lot stronger then what the media portrays.

Baylor wasn't a 4 point loss. Duke beat them 34-20.
