I looked at this and thought Vermont immediately… then remembered technically we are a dog vs Bama if we play them

My fave is South Dakota over Providence. Va Tech over Texas. Davidson over Michigan State.

I picked Loyola, Davidson and South Dakota State with SDSU being the one I felt most strongly about. Providence getting blown out in the semis like that sent up some red flags for me.

Michigan over Colorado State. The worst kind of upset (low seeded high major over better seeded mid-major)

Sd State and Iowa St should be live dogs. VA Tech may win it all if you subscribe to the theory to roll with the hot team.

I have watched a lot of Providence this year. They have survived so many games they could have lost. Yes, they get credit for somehow pulling out those games, but I made up my mind 2-3 weeks ago I was picking against them.
Agree .

My 19 year old son who attends St. Louis Univ. has RU in the Sweet 16 in his pool.....he's a bright young man.
I typically don’t pick a bracket until the first four games are done. I would pick Rutgers over Bama, but not sure I would do the same with ND.

A lot of these worse seeds will be favored and not technically upsets.

But Michigan and Iowa St are my picks regardless

but the warning with Va Tech is they really were not good until the ACC tourney and some of these schools shoot their wad.....however there is Oregon State from last year who made the run and kept it going

sometimes you cant go off of tourney play. Look at how UCLA did last year, limping to the finish barely getting in and then making the final 4

Va Tech was super high analytics wise (relatively speaking) and mid season closed 11-2 and a conference tourney win.

The warning with Va Tech was actually they’re pretty good and their record isn’t showing it at the moment.

lol....no were they a missed shot away from losing to mediocre Clemson. More like they got hot at the right time.

Bilas picks Rutgers to beat Alabama:

No. 6 Alabama vs. No. 11 Rutgers/Notre Dame

The Crimson Tide have been a puzzle all season long. This is not the same shooting or defensive team as last year's version, but if they figure some things out, the Tide can still make a run. Alabama seems most dangerous from 3-point range, but it is actually tougher from 2-point territory. The Tide are shooting only 29% from deep in SEC games, with Jaden Shackelford leading the way as the top scorer. Jahvon Quinerly averages 14.3 points and 4.3 assists, and as he goes, so goes Alabama. The Tide have beaten Gonzaga, Tennessee, Miami, Houston and Baylor, but the losses have been head-scratching. If the good Bama shows up, the Tide can roll.

Notre Dame and Rutgers play in the First Four, and given that Notre Dame can shoot it, has terrific players in Dane Goodwin and Blake Wesley, and can tempo down the game, the Irish can beat Rutgers. The Irish shoot almost 40% from deep in ACC games. However, I favor Rutgers because of its talent level and toughness. Rutgers is much better than its record, and with playmakers such as Ron Harper Jr. and Geo Baker, the Scarlet Knights can make shots, including Harper making game-winning shots. Paul Mulcahy is a great passer, Clifford Omoruyi is a terror on the glass, and Caleb McConnell can guard anyone and is among the best defenders in the country. I favor Rutgers over Notre Dame, and the Scarlet Knights can beat Alabama, too.

Winner: Rutgers. If the "good Alabama" shows up, the Tide can roll the Scarlet Knights. But Rutgers is tougher. This is an upset worth taking, because the seeds are off here. Take Rutgers.

Having watched Davidson for the first time yesterday, I agree. I fail to see the hype. Extremely slow, unathletic team that just got fat off a bad A10 conference in a down year.
And played stupid when it counted

Fouled a couple of times on driving baskets for 3 point plays,

fumbled the ball twice late….. then, instead of going to the hoop themselves at the end, settled for a 3 point attempt

Watching a fair amount of college basketball lately, I'd be surprised if a number of B1G teams don't win some games. The level of your average conference team seems very poor.

Obviously, I'm biased but I think Michigan over CSU is one of the best bets for an upset. Probably the best one.

Michigan is a 2.5 favorite in Vegas, so taking Colorado State is the upset technically.

"When the #11 Seed is favored, the #6 Seed is 1-5 S/U, 1-5 ATS since 2006"
"#6 Seed NOT from AAC, ACC, B10, B12, BE, P10, P12, SEC vs. #11 Seed from one of those conferences, #6 Seed is 2-6 S/U and 2-6 ATS"

"Since 2008, if the #11 seed is ranked higher or within 5 spots in the Overall ranking of the #6 seed, they are 11-5." On Torvik, Michigan is 26 and CSU is 41. On kenpom, Michigan is 33 and CSU is 31.

The 6 seed is also vulnerable if they have an O or D efficiency outside the top 40. CSU's defense is 83.

Getting out of your confrence and playing “some fresh meat” is either feast or famine …I think it helps Ohio state , Purdue and Rutgers and hurts Wisconsin and Iowa from the big ten this ncaa season…..

This is true. I know Iowa is a highly thought but would not be surprised if Richmond slows them down

Purdue looked great last year as did Ohio State until they both went down in the first round meekly

Lower seeded 1st round picks

RU over Alabama

Memphis over Boise

Vermont over Arkansas

Marquette over NC

Indiana over St Mary

Chatanooga over Illinois

Loyola over Ohio State

Creighton over San Diego St

Iowa St over LSU

Colorado St over Michigan

I have all of them losing the next round. That is how I pick most of my upsets when I fill out a bracket. If either of the teams I figure will not get past the next round take a flyer on the lower seed

I do not watch enough games to do anything but guess into some type of system

I think this years first round has lots of coin flips. Brackets will be all over the place.

For RU, I think ND is a tougher matchup than Bama

OSU has been hit with injuries which is why I asked if they would be back to full strength. Key and Young were out

Everybody is so, so high on Iowa and has them making a run, that I’m definitely going to have a bracket where they’re done by the second round.
