Yes, it's gotta be the fault of the opposing point of view. You're the very worst on this board for intolerance of an opposing viewpoint. Stop being a hypocrite.
Yawns. Maybe you could find someone who cares. Opinions from haters are so irrelevant.

In the 70's the premier UK rivalry was with Tennessee and wasn't even close. Joe Hall vs. Ray Mears, Memorial/Rupp Arena vs. Stokley Athletic Center, Givens, Robey and Lee vs. the Ernie & Bernie show. That was a insane rivalry.

IU was a rival but, it just didn't seem to be as heated as UT.

In the early 80's LSU became a heated rival. Dale Brown's antics are legendary. Auburn while Barkley was there a bit as well.

In the early 90's it was Arkansas vs. UK and hardly any other teams in the SEC mattered. RP vs. Nolan Richardson. The Arkansa band even played the Godfather Theme when RP came on the court in Fayetteville. LOL!

Dook after the '92 game was probably one of the most hated by BBN and that continues to this day to a lesser extent.
UNCheat has been a lesser rival since the late 70's with occasional flareups.

But, without a doubt the most intense and heated rivalry UK has EVER been a part of is with UofL. Since the first Dream Game the hatred between the fanbases (and sometimes players and coaches) has gone on nonstop. It's kinda strange too because UK owns a nearly 2-1 wins ratio over the Dirty Birds. Not exactly a neck and neck contest.
IMO, the vitriol and outright hatred of the two fanbases far surpasses Dook/UNCheat. The only thing comparable is the Bama/Auburn football rivalry and NOTHING is even close to that in American sports.

I guess if you didn't grow up on the Indiana-Kentucky border and didn't go to those neutral site, one half of the building blue and one half of the building red Indiana vs Kentucky games of the 90s then maybe you don't appreciate how fierce that rivalry was at the time.

This. In the 80s it was really tense. Louisville won in 80 and 86 and were the “cool” team on the rise whereas UK was kind of old school. Denny crum loved talking smack. Fun times though.
UK should have started scheduling UofL the minute Denny arrived.

Can you imagine the games that would have been played between them in the 70s?
Younger folks might not realize just how good both teams were in the 70s since they only have one NC between them. That decade would have really established the rivalry as the best in America and would have been some of the best basketball to watch ever.

See, Tennessee has never really felt like a rivalry to me. I mean I know we're border states and all that, but the rivalry has never been that intense to me. Not like Indiana and Louisville.

A rivalry has never been more instense than Kentucky/Louisville in the 80s when UofL was having their run. The dream game occurred. Then Sutton arrived and made the little brother comment. Then Chapman went off for 26 points at UofL and the modern rivalry was born.

If this is before your time, just know that everything that has occurred after the stretch in the 80s has been nothing in comparison.
How about 91-92 Boo Brewer throwing Sean woods over his shoulders like a sack of potatoes. Woods came up trying to land a haymaker, but was wrapped up by the ref.

You amuse me. You and your sock accounts.
Oh, poor thing. You got punked too. Looks like only haters fell for that. Not sure who started it but man you guys got that wrong line everything else.

As far as amusing you, I suspect that’s easily done.

I think there's a lot of hate for Tennessee but I agree with others in that labeling it a true "rivalry" seems strong to me. It gives them more credit than they deserve in a sense. Rick Barnes seemingly is on the right track, but UT has done nothing notable in their history. I can concede that those who live near the border have a different perspective.

I've been to Nashville for the SEC tournament a handful of times, been to a few other events where multiple fan bases gather. I have only personally experienced three interactions with fans I would consider truly "hostile" in all my time being a fan. All three instances were with a Tennessee fan just walking by me on the street. Didn't even so much as look at them. The UT fanbase is the biggest bunch of ******** I've ever seen.

You're fascinated with "punked". Probably because of your preference for taking it in the ***.

Seriously? That’s what you got? Haters always flee by making anatomical or sexual references. I’m guessing due to some common deficiency.

Although these took place so long ago no one living today experienced them, two rivalries that UK had which rival any other in intensity were the rivalries with cross-town rival Transylvania (aka Kentucky University) and with cross-state rival Centre College (aka Central University).

Below are some series histories I wrote discussing these rivalries.

Kentucky vs. Transylvania Series History

Kentucky vs. Centre College Series History

So the UK/IU thread got me thinking of some of the intense rivalry times. I’m not asking who you would consider the most intense rival of UK all time, but rather what timeframe do you think UK had its most intense rivalry and with who?

The UK/UL rivalry was pretty fun around 12-15, especially living in Louisville.

My dad has told me a lot of great stories of UK/IU during the Hall/Knight days.

Lets hear some good rival stories and memories. When do you think UK was at it most heated with a rival?
Except for this past year, practice.

IMO the top rivals in order all time
Loserville
Indiana
Tennessee
LSU (Dale Brown years)
Arkansas ( early 90’s)

We don’t play Dook enough to consider it a rivalry. We used to play Notre Dame every year but we won 80% of them, so that’s not a rivalry.
good list

we always have a rivalry (loose term) with the "flavor of the month" in the SEC, those teams are good for a year or two and then fall away like the BD Florida teams and the Stansbury MSU teams

with Arkansas you have to break them down to two different rivalries
the Nolan Richardson 40 minutes of hell teams we wanted to beat but had respect for them and how they played
the Mike Anderson teams we had no respect for them because of how they played dirty and ran their mouths

In every NCAA tournament, there is exactly one team that starts a streak of "bad mojo" - a chain of games where every winner immediately loses the next game. Example, in 2012, Harvard kicked off the sequence of losing like this:

Harvard lost to Vanderbilt, who then lost to Wisconsin, who then lost to Syracuse, who then lost to Ohio State, who then lost to Kansas, who proceeded to lose to Kentucky.

Every other team starts a sequence of games towards the championship where at least one team along the chain wins two in a row.

I found it somehow satisfying that the team that launched the bad mojo in 1996 - when Kentucky had arguably the greatest college basketball team in history - was none other than Indiana.

Indiana lost to Boston College, who lost to Georgia Tech, who lost to Cincinnati, who lost Mississippi State, who lost to Syracuse, who lost to Kentucky.

My disdain of all things Tennessee come from a couple of things.

First and foremost, how in the hell do you justify banning Hank Williams Sr, Elvis, and Johnny “Man in Black” Cash from the Grand Ole’ Opry, then move the Opry to a parking lot at a mall, then top it off and have pop star Blake Shelton as the host and face of it????? There’s just no forgiveness for this! 😈🔥😈🔥

You poor bastard. Behind enemy lines. Tell me where we need to send the supply drop!
Haha, I have to admit, it's a pretty beautiful state. We love living here.

I just never felt the big "UT - UK rivalry." Historically we've dominated them in basketball, and they've dominated us in football. With some blips on the radar to the contrary but not many. It just has never had the competitiveness of a true rivalry to me.

Louisville isn't competitive with us in basketball, yet that's a rivalry no?

To me personally, there's no one I care about beating in EVERYTHING than Tennessee. Louisville will always be the Metro, CUSA school that was never even worthy of being called our rival. We had Georgia v Georgia Tech, Florida v Florida State, South Carolina v Clemson, and here we are playing these commuter school chumps. They were WKU at best. Not worth our time.

Tennessee is our conference rival. Beating them has far bigger ramifications for us recruiting wise in everything. Yeah, beating Louisville helps us with Louisville prospects but that city and this state don't produce enough talent in any one sport that I worry about them. How long has the Tennessee game affected our perception in the SEC. How many 7-5 seasons could have been 8-4. Just look at the perception of South Carolina nationally and amongst the SEC just because of being able to beat them with enough frequency.

No one cares if we beat Louisville but us. No one.

I want Indiana back on our schedule in football and basketball. If we played regularly again, yeah, it'd probably be uglier than the UofL series. I'm in my 30s so I only remember us beating the shell of Bobby Knight. Would have loved to see him and Joe B going at it. To hell with those candy striped bastards.

Indiana and Louisville are historically really good basketball programs. The games always feel big because of that. It’s fun to call Louisville metro conference or WKU or whatever, but they’re truly a much stronger basketball program than Tennessee. They just are.

I don’t know man. I know they’re our conference rivals but it just doesn’t feel that intense to me.

Yeah, but we both know this is about more than basketball. Sure, UNC is rival in basketball but not anything else.

There's no school other than Tennessee that I care about beating in EVERYTHING. Yes, I also feel that way about Louisville but I don't really care beyond the Big 3 frankly. Indiana used to be intense but that ship sailed.

Tennessee is Public Enemy #1. Always.
