Ray Mears and his dwarf sidekick Stu Aberdeen. The last time I saw Mears was shortly before he died. He was the guest speaker at the national 15 & under AAU tournament, and he was in some stage of dementia or Alzheimer's. I felt bad for him as he was really struggling to put sentences together. I couldn't believe that somebody decided it would be a great idea to put him up there like that.

Yes, BB. I've been surprised that Ernie and Bernie haven't been named more. And you're absolutely right ! I don't have to look at Jon Scott's site to vividly recall that they beat us like a rented mule back in the day ! ! ! But they were both just damn good players, and it's hard for me to hate them as much as thugs like Ron Slay and other thugs already named.
Add me to the Ernie and Bernie list.

Seemed like OK guys, but they murdered us game after game back in the day.

Having a tough time deciding between Grunfeld and Mears. Probably have to say Mears. He was there longer. 😂

Some of you may remember Grunfeld cheated us out of a game by taking someone else’s free throws. And I believe I have read that Mears absolutely despised us.

If anyone has ever listened to Tennessee basketball on the radio, then they'll understand that the most annoying person has to be their 'color,' analyst and former player Bert Bertlekamp.

Never watched him play, he was there in the late 70s, but his color commentating is a crime against humanity. He provides 0 substance and yells, "MONEY" after Tennessee makes any 3 pointer. It's enough to make you want to punch babies.

Also, any player from the Jerry Green and Buzz Peterson eras (sans maybe Dane Bradshaw, who I now kind of like) would fit the bill. Also... Tyler Smith.

Yeah, I was gonna say Ray Mears. Good coach. His Vols teams gave the Cats hell over a 15-season span.

Bruce Pearl and that hideous orange jacket he always wore against UK. But my true hate is for their meth mouth, hilljack fanbase that is completely insufferable.

LOL. I was going to say Ernie and Bernie, and give Stu an nonorable mention. Can still remeber that little SOB jumping up and down on the sidelines sniveling and crying his *** off.

The E & B hate is mostly from how good they were and won so many matchups against us, although Ernie did have the FT cheating thing.

Ernie played about 7 years or so in NBA, didn't do much IIRC. Bernie was tearing the league up until the really bad knee injury. They didn't have the reconstructive surgeries then, but he did come back and have several good seasons I think. Was never quite the same player though.

Also agree with all the other thugs, a-holes others have mentioned. LOL

I'd like to say the "Ernie and Bernie" show, because those guys whipped our *** in the 70s. But, they were actually cool dudes.

That was Ernie Grunfeld and Bernard King for the youngsters.
I am old enough to remember, they were great players, and they kicked our butts. King was one of the most explosive players until he got injured . He was a NBA All-Star

Fulkerson is easy to hate but he can’t surpass Ron Slay just yet. I def gotta say Chris Lofton. Not because I hated him but I hated we didn’t have him on our team. That boy could burn a hole through the net and he should’ve been ours. Tennessee could have Scotty Hopson though. Man I hated admiral Schofield too.

From 1975 to 1980 Kentucky went 2-9 against Tennessee. Those are some special teams too, for Kentucky.
Rupp's Runts sole regular-season loss during 1965-66 season came versus Vols at old UT Armory Fieldhouse against a Ray Mears-coached squad. Mears went 15-15 vs Cats during his time as HC in Knoxville. Don Devoe was also pretty good against Cats back in those days, going 11-14. Currently, Rick Barnes is 9-8 vs UK.
