Report: Pair of Ohio State football players charged with rape, kidnapping
https://sports.yahoo.com/ohio-state...rested-charged-rape-kidnapping-050902302.html

Where is E Cat when you need him?

This goes with the territory when prioritizing the recruitment of elite football players at all costs. You are bound to get your share of rotten apples which will reflect very poorly on your program. I don’t think it is worth it.

To those who are critical of Fitz for his deliberative and highly selective recruiting process which puts an emphasis on fit above else, these are the type of low character kids that Fitz and NU are trying to avoid at all costs.

This is a true statement. I have often wondered though if, when you are a person who has elite physical ability to overwhelm normal people, and you have made a life of it in sport, is it more difficult to resist the temptation to assert yourself off the field? Not to say that they don't have to, it is just as a person of slightly below average stature, I have learned that I can't simply take what I want because it wouldn't be successful.

I didn’t say they were. I am saying that a recruiting effort focused solely on high star ratings and talent at the expense of other considerations will unavoidably lead to developments like this.

"This," as the kids say.

Fair question but I don’t think so. A lot of it comes down to upbringing and facing consequences as a young person.

In the professional world, we large folk have to be mindful of not being imposing or intimidating due to HR concerns and just being someone that people want to work with.

If the allegations are true, these guys are simply scumbags.

Defiantly Scumbags. I'm not trying to make excuses for them. Your point about having to worry about intimidating people with out meaning to is something I hadn't considered much.

True, St. Paulie, you would think that. But once they finish with their Underwater Fire Prevention class, how many more classes can they be expected to attend? Remember, they ain't come to play school.

You're right, Willy. They're not. But with far too many of them, you can see this coming down Main Street long before they sign their LOI. People should be ashamed of themselves for rooting for programs that sell their souls - integrity be damned - to worship at the altar of winning at all costs. Hence, my sig . . . ;)

BTW, any news from Penn St. on the progress of their rape investigation?......What’s that? No progress yet....Oh, OK. I’ll probably have forgotten about all this bother in a few months....

I think the DA decided not to pursue charges as no one would corroborate the accusations.

They do and it's worth 3 credits. However, most of dOSU football players who take it (which is most of the team) don't go to the classes and have their "tutors" take the exam.

Both OSU and Pen. St. should be kicked out of the Big Ten.. They can play in a "Penitentiary League" or the SEC.

Innocent until proven guilty. Due process and all that.

But seriously...here's why I'm saying this (besides the obvious)...I saw the headline a couple of days ago and happened to visit the Eleven Warriors website, where basically all the reader comments were tilted in favor of the players, and I thought to myself, holy sh*t, do these jackasses honestly not care about the truth here, either way?

It's terrible when news like this hit, but it most certainly transcends football and our rooting interests. If true, this is infinitely worse than all the other scum that we know tarnishes THE Ohio State football program, but as a football fan and a person I am willing to wait for due process before chucking stones or assuming the very worst.

well they were booted off the team. Guessing the initial evidence in the internal investigation is pretty strong.

Most of the OSU fans I know, are aware of these issues (criminal and academic-related) and they just don't care. They want a good football team and that is all the matters.

We need to lower admissions standards!

It’s something to consider. I also am mindful of those on the smaller side of the spectrum, particularly as I age.

I verbally reprimanded my boss’s boss last year for cracking a height joke when I was catching up with a coworker who’s about a foot and a half shorter. Given the HR implications, he quickly offered a shallow apology and walked away / hasn’t make a wisecrack since (I mention it as he’s an OSU fan).

I also make an effort to sit / not loom over people if I know they’re significantly shorter than I am so that I don’t dominate the conversation.

There are pros and cons to all heights along the spectrum. People who use their size to bully, intimidate, or violate others are dinosaurs and deserves to go extinct.

Exactly, and that's why these people are embarrassments to themselves, - even though they're too idiotic to realize it - their families, and everyone they come in contact with. People like this should be given mandatory remedial training on how to function around respectable people.

It was an old story when it was posted. The police investigated last year and found nothing. The kid transferred and filed a civil suit.

PS. Several other transfers like Corey Bolds who is now at Rutgers even chimed in and said the story was BS.
