Seems like RU is doling out more offers for bball than they have in the past. Not sure if that’s a fact or just my perception.

Also wondering what happens if we get more commitments than open scholarships, especially since some of our guys are getting an extra year of eligibility.

Coaches are finally seeing prospects play live basketball again after a long time only seeing tape. Not surprised there's been a flurry of offers.

I wonder how Pike decides who he will take.. When we offered Jalen Miller, never did I think he was a real target

I made the same comment a few weeks ago. We were 4th or 5th in the conference in number of offers going out.

Players who stay at their school for a super senior season do not count against the 13 player scholarship limit
This will keep the portal very active, until all the super senior eligibility expires, with teams having too many scholarship players and not enough playing time.

Is Rutgers still focused on high school recruits, thinking they have a better chance at landing elite players, with most college programs focusing on the transfer portal?

The offer count isn't relevant, if you offer a 2022 kid in 2019 or 2020 and that kid goes to high 4* or 5* status, it's an offer but not really relevant.

Then there are offers that are made, to monitor progress and development and see where that players recruitment goes. You can deem those as luke-warm, but not offers that a player can commit to today.

Then there are the other offers that are new evaluations, based on the spring and summer circuit, which may probably be considered more legitimate, because you are watching a kid for the 1st time live, vs tape.

Depending on the program/school or scholarship count, dictates what amount of offers. RU should have 4 to 5 spots available, so there should be more offers in this cycle vs last year. I wouldn't deem this as "RU is throwing out more offers than usual". You could see 4 spots or 4 available playing time spots up for recruitment in 2022, via HS, JUCO or transfer portal.

Baker 5th year

Harper Jr 4th year (next level)

Agee (grad transfer)

Caleb (4th year, could stay a 5th at RU, but is potentially eligible to be a grad transfer after this season.

Programs can focus on the transfer portal and on HS recruiting at the same time. It doesn't have to be an either-or situation.

If a player can’t commit to an offer is it really an offer?

To paraphrase almost every D1 Coach I've ever asked about whether an offer is committable or not an offer is an offer if the kid thinks it is an offer.

Also, I wouldn't recommend being concerned about scholarship numbers. The numbers always have a way of working themselves out in the end

I think missing on targets has caused the increase. Even with the recent success, it’s still a challenge to land kids who have 15 offers with good schools. I mean we just lost a prime target to St. Joe’s. I thought they would be last on the kids list.

Maybe RU wouldn't take Winborne. I'd like to think that he wasn't at the top of the RU board at his position.

I like the kid but I think he'll have more success at St. Joe's than at Xavier or any of the high-major programs he listed offers from like Rutgers, LSU, Nebraska, Virginia Tech etc.
