Numbers wise we could have room to take all three.

So I know this has KINDA been talked-about on here but I might have missed the definitive answer. Can you pay a walk on NIL $$ and not put them on scholarship? Can only scholarship players get NIL $$? If so scholarship limits don't matter???

Sorry if this has been answered

I'd like to add 2 more the B1G is a war of attrition. Keep them DL bodies coming in we'll need them.

That's been my speculation for a long time. I don't see how you could legally restrict a walk on from getting an NIL deal if other players are getting them. I think though, so far, coaches have been reluctant to try that because they're feeling their way in this new world and it hasn't been necessary yet.

Don't think anyone with responsible authority has specifically addressed it yet. Probably would be a good call-in question to ask Frost next time he's at a press conference or on the radio show.

Walk-ons can get NIL.

So you'd think Nebraska can't be far behind in making a deal like that. The trick then becomes the school accepting a walk on. For non-stars, I think it would be a good deal to secure walk ons the equivalent of scholarship pay IF they make the team. After all they put in a lot of work if they're on the team.

Those long joked about county scholarships basically become reality.

This happens, the weakest link will be the offensive line..
I think O-line already is. WR isn’t much better

I actually like the D-Line a lot. I went from thinking we’d have a good offense and bad defense to vice-versa quickly

I can't believe they haven't done more to shore the o-line up. I hope the new coach has it figured out
They brought in two portal guys that have started for their prior programs. Both of those guys are competing for one of the top 5 spots. One will probably end up starting and both may at some point during the season.

So then scholarship limits don't really matter. Pay them an extra 50k and have them write a check back to school for tuition room and board.
You can't do that, but I'm not sure what the rules are or how they can enforce it.

School itself can't pay or that of course would be considered a violation BUT non-school businesses or individuals can hire players and pay them.

What has opened everything up from what used to be the practice is the ability for players to sell their personal NIL rights. In the past there was a reasonable pay comparison benchmark for working at a hamburger stand for instance. A booster couldn't pay a hamburger flipper $200 an hour to flip those burgers and get away with it when everyone else doing the same thing was getting minimum wage. But in the world of selling your name, image, likeness there's just no standard pay comparison. Different people are worth different amounts, always have been in that realm. Compensation is all over the map. And no court these days is going to say a player doesn't have the right to sell his own personal NIL to the highest bidder.

I've been as critical as anyone of Frost but the job his staff has down on portal recruiting has been phenomenal this offseason. Went from having very little hope of things improving to being pleasantly surprised. I agree with what was posted earlier to make room for all three if they're willing to come. Regardless of what happens with those 3 players mentioned in the initial post, I think it's it has been a successful offseason.

Alberts probably deserves a lot of credit too.

I agree. Williams and Anthony are good additions. OL will need a great summer and fall camp but should perform better this year with better coaching. Getting the DL and safety from Bama would be huge in shoring up the Blackshirts.

And the O-Line needs an edge to them like Jake Young, Aaron Taylor and many others from yesteryear!

I'd take just about any starting guard or right tackle throughout the last 30 years. By default, it would strengthen either position.
