Do not want to be a downer but so far Frost is 4-8 and Hoiberg has yet to coach a game for Neb. Having said that both coaches could become huge successes for the HUSKERS! However to this point neither coach can be called a success in Lincoln. We may want to dial back the supposed success of either of these two hires at this point in time. Again sorry for applying the brakes but it really does seem like the reasonable response at this point in time!!!!!!

Both coaches would be considered home run hires at almost all but a very few universities in both sports. That is all you can ask for at this point. We are going to find out, whether thid small university in a remote state can be consistently nationally relevant in today’s college football world and the same in basketball at a historically bad program.

As I said in another post - if this doesn’t work out it is going to be hard to blame coaching.

Going to find out if it is possible to consistently win at Nebraska.

I guess I hear what you’re saying, but my question is, why? If there was ever a time to be excited over hires, both of these hires are those times. Saying that we shouldn’t be excited is inappropriate. Why should we temper our enthusiasm? I guess I just don’t agree with that philosophy.

In my opinion.

Nothing is guaranteed, but Hoiberg is the first basketball coach hired in 70+ years with actual P5 coaching experience/success, so I think being excited about that is fine...

Excited over these two hires is expected and we should be excited. However as I state maybe we best not go overboard. And maybe I am a bit bothered by people acting like Frost accomplished so much that we have no reason to be a bit apprehensive about him based on his first year results. Honestly I love the Hoiberg hire and that is who I wanted from the word go. But I also know enough to not get to where my expectations become unrealistic. If I am the stick in the mud then okay I am !

Yep, you are the stick in the mud. But you are also right, that he hasn’t won anything for us here in Nebraska. We can be excited about his hiring, and hopeful that he will take us to great heights.

I’m just happy that I don’t know enough to not go overboard. Somebody throw me a life vest cause I’m going in.

With all due respect kids....., you are not able to differentiate a joke from reality.

This ability to be offended about damn near anything is a scourge upon our country, and you are one of the easily offended I guess.

That said, congrats to Moos, i never expected to see a bb hire like this in my lifetime. I began attending games when Cip was the coach. This is very exciting for me even as I live so far away now.

Exactly. The fact that Hoiberg had childhood ties to Lincoln and Frost QBed NU to a championship are nice storylines, but they are genuinely highly sought-after coaches who we could be excited about even if they had no connections to Nebraska.

I never accept race to be brought up even as a joke. In today's world it is unacceptable. Sorry! Having said that I will again state that I hope Frost turns the football program around and Hoiberg ends up being the answer to our basketball program being a success as a Power 5 program. Will gladly come back and state such if these things happen! To the success of both programs and both coaching staffs!!!!!!!!

Based on 1st year results? Really??!! Look at the absolute mess he started with...you may or may not be a stick in the mud but you are an idiot.

Actually, comedians of many racial backgrounds use race in their shows, in TODAY'S world! That is the way of the world in which we live in.

If Frost and Hoiberg do not succeed it is not because of their ability as coaches but more an indictment of the state of nebraska sports. There are some systemic problems in the university that make it hard to win at nebraska, there are some demographic problems that make it hard to win at nebraska, and if I am honest, I am not sure the big population centers are as loyal to the huskers as many would think. Lincoln does not compare in fervor to Norman or Columbus or Tuscaloosa. Those places will cut programs, fire good folk, and hire horrible folk to make sure they win...NU has lost that edge and desire to do horrible things for a crystal ball.

The future looks very promising. However, you are right. Prove something to me first and then we can talk about how great they are. So far, nothing has been proven , but hopeful promises. The future does look bright, but we can not evaluate this for 2 to 3 years. As far as I know, Bear Bryant and John Wooden are both dead. We need to stop proclaiming both of these coaches as the next coming until they prove something plain and simple and I expect they will.

You are 100 percent right in this early stage.
