There's no conspiracy involved. It's likely just an incident of some misbehavior that would put the University in a bad light. That's not conspiracy, that's job performance related.
AD's don't just wake up one morning and decide it's time to retire. Something happened recently. Hope it's not a health issue with him/family.

Don't want to see it but I bet they hire trev. Save some money on moving expenses
Oh man I hope not. Trev's 1st move would be to get rid of the women's bowling team same way he did UNO wrestling right after winning a National Championship. I go to UNO volleyball and basketball games and he is never around except when he has to be to retire a player's jersey or honor a past alumni. He hadn't been to more than a few home games for the men's team a few years back. Then they made the conference championship game which was on ESPN. He made sure he was sitting in the 1st row right behind the UNO team bench so he could his face on tv. Hadn't been there for the team the whole year and then pretends he is their biggest fan that one game.

Moos hired Frost and Hoiberg which 99% of the fanbase wanted. He then hit it out of the park with the Bolt hire....he then proceeds to get the funds needed to build the best football facility in America.

People still ***** and complain.
He didn't help with fundraising for the new football facility per article in OWH. I think this shows that his "retirement" was in the works for some time now.

My first guess is this might have to do with alcohol sales issue at memorial stadium. Moos was probably for it, while Osborne and a large number of boosters are against it. Just speculation.

No, everyone knows alcohol won’t be in the stadium or arena till TO passes away..

I take this as a total positive that we are that much closer to ridding ourselves of the Frost era of Nebraska football. Today is a day to be optimistic, because there will no longer be an AD who looks the other way as Frost shepherds the football program to 3 wins against FCS schools for the blind and deaf in the fall.

It depends on who replaces Moos.

^^^^ This is exactly my thoughts. SOMETHING has come up. Either health issue or"you can retire immediately or we're going to terminate your service".

You don't retire effective the end of the month which is in 5 days.

For his sake I hope it's not health related. For our sake I hope it's not scandal/sanctions related.

As Tru Husker mentioned moos was not an always seen face of the Huskers at events and was not spearheading the fundraising. That's his choice and I m fine with that. Maybe something the regents wanted to change. We're all throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks right??

Hope the search is successful and quick
I'm hoping that rather than health or termination a third possibility is knowing Moos was gone in 2022 the university administration has been putting out feelers for a new AD, got an outstanding candidate lined up, but he (or she) was unwilling to wait until 2022. Facing a now-or-never the university asked Moos to step down early and sweetened the deal by letting him have the $1M bonus as if he had gone to 2022. But then...I have been accused of being a hopeless "glass half full" guy.

Outsider opinion. Moos was a “car salesman”. You were never going to win with him. I met one of our ADs in the late 2000’s. After 15 seconds of talking with him one thing came to mind….”car salesman”. He was a flop. The one after that….meh. I never talked to him. Then our last two I talked to. They both seemed genuine and were very well spoken, not to mention very comfortable just speaking with us common folk.

New AD means new coach in 1-2 years unless Dennis the Menace finds some magic beans.

Everyone should get the notion out of their heads that Trev Alberts and Matt Davidson or even Dave Rimington will not be the next AD..

Maybe Frost feels a little less comfortable with his departure . . . if so, good.

I don’t know…if his 12-20 record, lack of interest from recruits, and minimal development going on within the program doesn’t have him feeling uncomfortable nothing will.

But then again, he is getting paid 5 +milllion a year to be pretty horrible at his job.

Someone tell me how Davison has any credibility aside from being a bud of Frosts'?
Davison has no business being in the position that he currently holds. New AD? Now That would be funny. With the hard-on the program has with trying to recapture the 90's, I could see it happening. Buys Frost another couple of years.

Wow, must have been something wrong with the WSJ article? Either that or they want a new AD to make key hires if necessary.

Or he got a DUI or he's going to replace Scott at Pac12.
Moos retired. He wasn't fired. He has talked about retiring with friends for months. I guess he saw this as a good time. I don't think this will have any bearing on Frost's tenure. There's one person bigger at NU than the AD and that is the football coach.

1. I love how without any additional information yet, this could swing big either way for Frost. Hiring Davison would cement him, while other hires would put him on the hot seat.
2. IF Moos is out due to poor performance, I wonder how much the dodging OU snafu played into it. Media leaking that was an embarrassment to say the least. Did it play a big role? Or final nail in coffin?
Moos is out because he's approaching 90 years old and wanted to retire. Nothing more than that.

My take is something embarrassing has come up, which forced the University's leadership to issue the ultimatum.

It can't be that serious, or he would have been flat out fired.

So it has to be something less serious in nature, but given that this has happened so quickly, they don't want to deal with it publicly either.

I don't believe it would be good for the program to push Matt Davison into that role, even if that was the original setup Scott wanted.

Regardless, things now become political, because of the vacuum created, and like a game of Warzone, you just don't know how it's going to all end up, until the position is filled and things get settled in afterwards.

A part of me is also now worried about Nebraska's squeaky clean image.. I don't know why, but a part of me worries something may have happened that could put that in jeopardy. I hope not.

I'd like to see the University make another excellent hire, for the good of the program, and not just hire someone loyal to Scott Frost.

I also think they should take their time on this. No need to hire someone right away. They might need someone to do the dirty work at the end of the season if things don't go right.

Not sure if this puts more good pressure on Scott or if it creates bad distractions during the season.. I'd probably let the interim guy ride things for awhile and make a better long term decision for that position in Nov/Dec.

Ignorant comment, he is responsible for the new football facility, more so than anyone else.

He does deserve the position he has now because he was a huge reason for the new facility. He shouldn't be AD though

Now that you mention it, there is an uncanny resemblance. I'd be a big advocate for Donald Trump being our AD. After going toe to toe fairly successfully with Kim Jong-un, Xi Jinping, Angela Merkel and the rest of the international vermin, handling Kevin Warren would be a piece of cake. Unfortunately he is five years older than Moos.

Pretty much told he was going to retire, I wonder if it had anything to do with the rumored apartment downtown the coaches had and the rumor the wives found out about it, specifically the timing of all this and the quick departure of Scotts wife and kids to Florida? Just saying.

If ADs got fired because their coaches are rumored to have a little something going on the side, there would be none left.

Except Moos retired
That's semantics only. He was relieved of his duties. For whatever reason. This was not done on his terms or his timetable.

......(Moos) told the Omaha World-Herald that he'd had conversations recently with University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Ronnie Green about his buyout and was informed last week that he would retire almost immediately.

“Apparently this was the best time,” Moos told the World-Herald while declining to say who told him he’d be retiring.
