who the frick cares about how it looks...you dont make decisions based on what others think about it, you make decisions based on what is best for the program. if moorhead wants out, we need to accommodate him because it looks like he is getting fired next year....you dont pay him more to keep him because it looks bad. optics are totally irrelevant.

Sure let's push Joe out the door in year two. I'm sure we can get Bob Stoops now. Un -frickin'-believable.

You better hope Cohen doesn’t do what dumbass Pete Boone did and throw a huge raise and buyout at him after a season that showed glaring concerns. Nutt’s agent floated the Kansas job (KANSAS) and Boone panicked. I think Cohen is a smarter guy than Boone, but this situation is very similar.

While I think optics are relevant, I believe if Moorhead wants to leave then we will be okay. I think most people (and especially other coaching candidates) will just see it as Moorhead being a "bad fit" or "in over his head" or whatever cliche you want to throw out there. I don't think people will just assume the State job sucks and Moorhead was anxious to bail.

The main reason I think optics are relevant is the opinion of other coaches, recruits, and to a certain extent our own fickle fan base. I don't mind people thinking the State job is too difficult for Moorhead, but what I don't want them thinking the State job is just too difficult. This would reduce the pool of potential coaches, and raise the price for the job. It would also negatively impact our image among high school recruits and, obviously, a good chunk of our fanbase would throw in the towel.

So I assume he is in year 2 of 4 year contract? If worried about optics to recruits, do you give him an extension for those that want to keep him for now? I don’t see him going leaving and would give hime bext year. But not on your life does he get extension! Given we get to at least 5 wins.

He already got an extension several months ago. He’s in Year 1 of 4 or Year 2 of 5....however you want to look at it. This was discussed several months ago. No MSU football coach who wins 8 games in year 1 is ever NOT going to be extended.

Extension, no raise, and no changes to his current buyout. We can issue a press release that he's extended to the max 4 years, but it doesn't cost us a dollar more if we have to fire him in Nov. 2020.

I know all good AD keeps a list of candidates for possible replacements so it makes sense but I have heard from reliable sources we are in contact with a coach that has a 49 and 20 head coaching record with one conference championship. I couldn't get his name confirmed yet but supposedly he is an offense minded coach.

Interesting. So I wonder if IB has talked to Joe and said if you feel like moving on, we do too.

I saw on one of these posts where someone suggested we go get Charlie Strong from USF...lol. He has only lost 9 in a row to FBS opponents. But hey....surely he could get us to whip Auburn.
