Agree. I've been giving him the benefit of the doubt but that does it for me. He's nowhere near as smart as we were led to believe. Will be damn lucky to win 6 next year.

Yep. Turned a 10-3, maybe 9-4, season into an 8-5 season with a loss to an average Iowa team. I have very little hope for next year. The only positive from today is that Fitz is done. We will never win with a qb that can't pass.

I was leaning toward moorehead being good. And now im back on the fence the opposite way. And here's my take on 2018 and him as our coach going forward.

Yes he deserves time. And given a good to great qb with lots of ingame smarts i think moorehead will be ok. But can we continue to get that guy every yr at msu? (Assuming Schafer is that guy for the immediate future). My guess is moorehead does ok over the next 3-5yrs around 7to8 wins. Im not convinced he'll ever be overly successful in this conference

Most talented defense in our history. The offense was considerably more talented in 2014-15. Not that coaching isn't part of it... But Dak, Fred Ross, Fred Brown, Bear Wilson, Jameon Lewis, and Malcolm Johnson were considerably better than this group. This is the absolute worst passing offense I have ever seen.

Devil's advocate

All he needs is the right QB to run his complex offense. **

just going to play devil's advocate here and make the obvious comment that may be the reason he makes the play cause he does is because we have a quarterback who can't throw the ball with any consistency or accuracy.and when he does all right receivers are so shocked they drop it!

Or make stupid as penalties. Or turn the ball over a hundred times, or make the stop on fourth and 1, or make the TD catch Guidry, or... how about blowing two Timeouts in the first 3:00 of third quarter?? First and goal at the 1 after the Guidry catch, out Nick under center and sneak the ball jntill you get in the end zone.

The inability to score from the 1 yard line on 1st down gave me flashbacks on 40 years of futility that I’ve been watching MSU. Glad I have other things in life to focus on besides my alma mater’s success in athletics.

It all started with a backup D-lineman getting a penalty for the throat slash. This guys needs to get his **** together or he will be gone so damn fast.

That O-Line was a problem though. If you can't stick in from the one then you can't win. Period.

You guys are 17n idiots. Nick Saban went 7-6 his first year at Bama with a loss to crxxm. If you’re basing future success as a coach off their first year then Saban should be a position coach for a Midwest NFL team and Crxxm would be getting nattys like it’s a video game

The three Fitz rushes from the 1 are on Fitz. Just give the GD ball to the RB.

You are 17n idiot. You do realize the difference? Saban had to completely rebuild that program. Everything was in place. Top defense coming back with nfl talent all over. One of the top offenses in the sec coming back and he made them look sluggish, indecisive, and inept. We went from one of the best offenses to one of the worst. Inexcusable

Our offense was not going to score 24 points on a pretty stout Iowa defense. Some of us knew that. Fitz is a runner not a passer. He ain't much of a thinker either. He's a dumb 17 and pretty selfish. You can bet the three running plays at the goal line were all RPO's. He had the back open on the edge twice. Glaringly open. Fitz kept it each time trying to be a hero.

The real issue was the undisciplined play throughout the game on both sides of the ball. That is on Moorhead and staff.

The 17n throat slash penalty on dumb 17 Kobe Jones gave them an easy first down and led to their first points. Idiot move. Then Abrahms ignores his first responsibility guarding the slot receiver and they get a 75 yard score. He lost his first round chance right there. And maybe his second round chance too. Had to know they were going to do that at some point.

Our receivers made a few highlight catches today - one was called back. But the reality is: they ain't that good. That said, it is hard to develop as a receiver when you have a dud like Fitz acting like he can throw a ball to you. No touch and he waits too late to get the ball out of his hands. He does not have a passer's clock in his head. Not sure what he has in his head. and did I mention he was selfish.

Thank God the Nicki Fitz era is done (thanks for the exciting running plays and beating TAMU three times and UM twice).

Let's wait until after next year before we really start bashing on Moorhead. He inherited Fitz and stuck with him. I wish he wouldn't have, but you gotta admire the loyalty.

We could not afford to make the mistakes we made today and we made more than a dozen of them at critical times. We lost that game. Iowa didn't win sh!4!

Not to oversimplify, but we were a semi competent WR Corp away from hitting 10-3 or 9-4. UF and Iowa losses were directly impacted by our sunbelt talent at wideout.

“One of the top offenses in the sec”

2017:

7th in scoring (32 ppg)
2nd in rush (251 ypg)
14th in pass (166 ypg)
6th in total (418 ypg)

2018:

10th in scoring (29 ppg)
2nd in rush (226 ypg)
13th in pass (175 ypg)
9th in total (402 ypg)

We took a step back for sure and it was like pulling teeth all year, but Moorhead didn’t an offense that many would consider to be a juggernaut.

Agreed on all points. In my opinion, the RPO is never going to work with a QB like Fitz because he's never been comfortable passing and has a tendency to to not pitch/handoff and try and make a big play himself with his feet.

I don’t know why people keep referring to this as the “most talented team in Mississippi State history”, because it certainly is not. We had 2 really dominant players on the D-Line and a pretty good DB. The best team in our history would have an outstanding QB and at least a couple of SWAC-level WR’s. We didn’t have either one.

Moorhead is not going to be able to run his offense until he gets a QB who is capable of running it. I appreciate Fitzgerald’s effort and his guts, but his inability to be an effective passer makes this offense one-dimensional. If Keytaon or Mayden could run it any better they would have been playing. You really can’t criticize Moorhead exclusively for the playcalling, either, because we know that Fitzgerald had options to do multiple things on most plays.

Personally I've never said they were the most talented

But This team deserved much better than it got.

Screw Moorhead's offense (now I've said that before).

Thing is, he should have been yanked and chewed out on the sideline. That hasn’t been done all season. They have had dumb penalties like that all year. Moorhead doesn’t believe in discipline. You can tell by the way he handles things.
