This morning as I was fixing my breakfast I thought about our candidates for the Basketball Head Coach position and realized that maybe our best option to save Money is to hire either an unemployed former head coach or a current high level assistant coach from a Top 25 program. That would eliminate all buyout payments to their current employer. (I assume assistants don't have buyout clauses). That would eliminate all the local mid-major coaches and a few others that have been mentioned.
Our search would then include the likes of Kenny Payne, Johnny Dawkins and Herb Sendek.
Not a bad group of candidates.

I would rather have a top assistant that has been groomed to be a head coach than an existing head coach that has some limited success. That's the only way to catch lightning is a bottle. No buy out also fits our financial situation. Sendek has had a smidge more than limited success, but since he also comes with no buyout, I am on the fence about him.
