And if we aren’t ranked it will have nothing to do with “not playing like a top 25 team right now” or “ugly wins” and everything to do with games we lost a month ago
we are 7-1, last 8 games... 4-1 in B1G in that span...I understand. But I think we aren’t playing like a top 25 team right now. Close, but not quite there.
I admit I’m not sure who out there is a 5-loss or less team that might be ahead of us, besides teams ready ranked or getting votes last week. But to me, that’s the question.
I’m not claiming to be any kind of expert on ranking. Just not happy with what I’m seeing on the court right now, on offense. I do not think it’s a sustainable approach to winning. You pride yourself on your fair unemotional take on everything.
What do you think better ranks teams? Computer programs but together by knowledgeable people that use as their input the result of every single game? Or your brain?
Mate, the defense is why we are good. No **** the offense isn’t that good. If the offense was good we would be like a top 5 team.I’m not claiming to be any kind of expert on ranking. Just not happy with what I’m seeing on the court right now, on offense. I do not think it’s a sustainable approach to winning.
OTOH, I believe the potential is there, and that we’ve even see it on court. Some more 10+ point wins would make more of a believer of me.
Don't tell us. Tell it to the team. Us fans can dream all day and as much as we want.Don't get too high or low with rankings. Take one game at a time. Michigan State is on deck!
Two years ago, we were ranked in the pre-season and rose to #11 early in the season before a couple of injuries brought us back down to the rest of the pack.I don't really mind if we aren't in the top 25 tomorrow. We do seem to be better with the chip on our shoulder. Win Thursday, and we will be in next week. Lose Thursday, and we probably wouldn't be.
On the other hand, I can't recall the last time we were ranked, so if we can get there for even just one week, that would be great.
@bac2therac - Please weigh in. Are we ranked tomorrow?
I wouldn’t bet a penny on my opinion about what AP or coaches will vote. I guess I’m not able to state the likelihood of how they’ll vote at all ‘cause I never really pay much attention to ranking during the season (and none to ranking before the season). You might be right about the actual ranking, I have no idea. But the AP poll is not exactly the worlds foremost basketball team evaluator.
That’s what I should’ve done instead of voicing a mostly RU-focused opinion. Will have to go through everyone so wont be able to answer just yet
I already said that, about my creditability with ranking in slightly different words. Stop copying me.Ohio State is one of the best offensive teams in the country, we hold them to 64 in an overtime game, and mildone says we aren’t that good because the win is ugly.
Credibility =>![]()
I bet indiana will be with their win over Wis. they had an awful week last week and still got more votes than RU. What a joke.
This I agree with, there's still a biased to be overcome. So, Rutgers won't get any benefit of the doubt and voters will always hedge on keeping them out.Switch jerseys: give Indiana Rutgers EXACT resume and their ranked #10 (same applies myriad other “name” program
With our resume we deserve a top 15 ranking. Easy!!
Luckily at the end of the day rankings mean squat - it’s all NET
That's right. Act like you've been there before and you belong. Because they do.I agree - but think this is one of two big growth / experiential hurdles we need to go through as a program - playing ranked and playing on national tv. Need more of both experiences and we are there as a Program under Pike - repeatable success as players turn over, national brand that gets us preference with recruits and tv execs and bracket folks, etc. Bring on that ranking and let’s get used to the weight of it!!
Totally agree we’ve been so used to losing for awhile that winning is something we need to be used to now on the top tier of levelsI agree - but think this is one of two big growth / experiential hurdles we need to go through as a program - playing ranked and playing on national tv. Rutgers will 100% be ranked. I’ll put them at #22. Ohio state is a good team and I would expect them to win a lot more games. We haven’t heard the last of them.
Correct. All 25 of the top-25 teams are 8-0 in that span not 7-1. And they all beat #0 not #1. So yes we are not playing as good as them right now. Especially the 11 of the 25 of them that all lost yesterday.we are 7-1, last 8 games... 4-1 in B1G in that span...
beat #1 team on road...
beat outstanding NW on the road...
not playing like top #25 team right now?
It was their first road game in a stretch with four out of five on the road, they have Iowa at home in the middle of this stretch too. It is a challenging slate for them.I like them too, but I just saw this was their first of five straight road games. Obviously an important stretch as at 2-4 it can get away from them quickly here.
Their fans talked a lot of sh*t just a week ago. They were expecting another national championship in March. Now, it's all quiet on their front.Shouldn’t St. Danny’s UConn team fall out too? All that talent and losing. Lots of crickets who were chirping just a week ago.
