Beltmentum
We've heard some good things about Belt. It's nice to have that insurance policy of a kid who knows the offense and can do the job in the early fall while the newcomers get up to speed. I expect Belt to play some.

WTF? Should we lower our expectations this year?
The kid is a legitimate D-1 player. Wisconsin would have taken a kid like that and he would have had 150 yards against a Pelini defense. Good size and speed. Smart kid who's been in the system and knows the offense.

What's his speed like? Woodhead like?
I doubt that. Woodhead was extremely fast. Belt was listed at 5-8 and 185 as a freshman but I think he's probably heavier than that now. You know most of our RBs are not as big as what some people think when you see them out in street clothes. Devine was a legit big back. Marlon Lucky was listed at 5-11 and 218. There was no way in hell he was that big. I stood next to him at Brother's in Lincoln and he was lucky to be 5-9/10 and 185.

Some notes:

Held says backs need to step up, Mo and Mazour look good at times

Bradley needs to be more consistent, get up field quicker

Katerion Legrone has had good spring at TE

Held very excited about Hoiberg hire

Held said JR. Day a big success, recruits love the way we practice

Vedral says Saturday scrimmage kinda rough for offense, but cleaned some things up today

Andre Hunt says receivers ready to prove themselves after Stan, AM a big reason he came to NU

Walters says D will embarrass O if offense doesn't bring A game, O competed and was better second half of practice

Walters wants best O in BIG

LJS on Saturday's practice: Quarterbacks coach Mario Verduzco said his quarterbacks were abducted by aliens on Saturday. Noah Vedral expanded on that, saying Saturday was not a good day for the quarterbacks.
General vibe seems to be that the Dline has taken a big step and is making the offense work for things. Dline+Darrion and Damion+1 added year is paying dividends. If both of those guys stays healthy, it will allow Carlos to play pretty much exclusively, which will be a better fit for him. Davis/Daniels squared plus Stille is a really nice core group. They can get some things done up front.

The opportunity is there for Hunt and Woodyard. Go grab it and run.

These updates are awesome!

I can't wait for fall camp to start and hearing about even more stuff going on.

Thoughts:

1.) Hearing that the D line is getting really nasty and disruptive is music to my ears. Damion Daniels is 340 lbs?! Jesus, that's huge.

2.) Not worried about the QB's having a bad day at all.

3.) Wondering if Mo Washington will ever play another snap for us.

4.) After Spielman and Warner, its sounding like Andre Hunt and Wan'Dale are going to be the next two receivers getting a lot of action. I wonder whatever happened to Javeon McQuitty?

All this talk about the defense beating the offense in scrimmages has me concerned. It’d be one thing if this were the Clemson defense or Alabama defense besting their offenses, but our defense was just soooo bad last year. It’s hard to imagine it improving that dramatically, without the offense regressing and perhaps doing so because 2 of the 3 biggest weapons (Stanley & Ozigbo) are gone.

Hopefully I’m making a mountain out of a mole hill and the offense is just as good as before and the defense really has improved that much. But guess we’ll find out in about months.

Everyone is just assuming our offense will be even better this year. AM is a sophomore and everyone is now in year two of the system. But we have BIG questions at running back if Washington is out, as well as at wide out and the offensive line. Believe it or not we may not be as good as we were last year. I think we will be eventually, (and probably even better than last year), but we may sputter early in the season.

1) Going through weight and conditioning for the 2nd year in a row under Duval and the defensive players understanding the schemes on defense.

2) Our defense defends the same offense day in and day out might also be another reason why the defense has been getting the upper hand early in the scrimmage’s.

We’re going to have to wait till the start of the season to actually see this offense at it’s full strength with the new backs coming this summer..
