Probably going to take some flack for this, but the guy needs to sit. Honas and Miller should be the starters with Mo giving some back up help. As much as we discuss Adrian on here, one of the glaring holes in our D continues to be him. Great character kid, but not playing as well as the other two.

He leads the team in tackles.

Agree he is a great character kid ... took a lot of conviction to make a statement like that especially knowing how much criticism Colin Kaepernick received

Not sure I would go this far, but Barry has not performed as expected this season. Last year, he jumped off the screen as a difference-maker. Not seeing it so far. I like his fire, so hope he can turn things around.

They are using him differently this year. Watch last year's games and compare. It is pretty obvious.

I don't follow the individual performances as much as I should. What players have taken a good jump forward from last year to this year so far?

Im old and my memory is going, maybe he is like martinez, where he's got a lot more to think about now. and last year the might have let them loose a bit more...it doesn't seem like we blitz a lot this year., seems like we try to contain more than attack. and just hope the dline gets pressure.

What screen were you watching? He was a run-down back only...needed to leave the field in the nickle or 3-3-5...he is better than he was last year, smarter, and reads the run better but he can't cover and he can't spy a mobile qb...he is though necessary because our depth is pretty poor, and often plays with Honas or Miller at the same time in run situations. Our OLB situation is dire at best.

Wow. Gotta disagree and that's fine. Mo Barry was one of my favorite players last year. Vicious hits, attitude, everything you want to see. Not so much this year.

I agree. I don't even think he was that good last year, but he's definitely taken a step back this year.

Ya gotta love mo intensity but he lacks discipline, he’s free lancing way to much and is out of position. But still is one of the better defenders we have

If he graded out the best - that means Honas and Miller did more damage.

Their mistakes didn't lead to a TD. Listen if you want to disagree, fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. The fact is right now that when Miller and Honas are on the field we look a hell of a lot better regardless of what the "grades" are. If you listen to any of the Husker shows with people in the know, it is pretty obvious Mo has not performed at a high level. Yes, he is piling up some tackles but he has no acceleration and is a half a step slow with all of his reads. He is better than Dedrick Young, but there is a lot of similarity between the two.

I am guessing that "graded out" the best just means that he did what he was supposed to on the play call.

It doesn't mean he made the play, it just means he went where he was supposed to go. (I think, i could be wrong)

This is why dudes like Farley "sucked" in practice (allegedly) but dominated in games.

With that said, I feel like Mo, Will and Colin are all pretty similar.

The defense as a whole is too aggressive and not in control in critical situations. The long Illinois TD was a result of Dismuke not sealing the edge because he went to far upfield. NW TD drive in the 3rd Q was due to Henry not setting the edge on the option reads because he was too aggressive and too far upfield. Garrett Nelson guilty of the same on the same drive. Multiple times we blitz and get to the QB and overrun him. Notice a trend?

This is one of those times when I think it really is down to the coaching.

Truly agree with defense being to aggressive. If I were an opposing offensive coordinator I would continually call misdirection and cut back plays until Neb stopped it once.. So far that hardly ever happens.. Nobody stays home at all no matter tha play call!

Vicious hits, attitude were a staple of the Riley defense that gave up 56 ppg their last 4 and finish 120th in the nation in total defense. We even had Riley holdovers against Wisky last year that would hit somebody hard, then celebrate while the player continued to run down the field. Mo is big and strong but not great...he can't cover because of his lack of mobility...Domann is much more well-rounded player who can make plays in the run and pass game. Mo is a liability on 3rd down and has been for years. It is the way it is...some of it is talent.

Seems like we get gashed big time when the defense tries to do too much. Sometime when we twist or stunt, the hole doesn't get filled soon enough and sometimes not at all. In the second half particularly, the zone read gave us fits. We had a guy with qb responsibility going wide but the lb didn't fill and the RB ran off tackle. Same thing happened when the de crashed inside. Nobody filled and off to the races it was again off tackle

I don’t think Morgan will be the running threat that NW QB presented, so hopefully we won’t struggle too much with zone read stuff.

Hopefully.

Still need to be fundamentally gap-sound. It's been a problem for a long time.

No doubt. Just hoping they aren’t as proficient as others. We need to improve, but even if we don’t, they may not take advantage of it like some others would.

So we might get away with some sloppy execution. Let's hope.

Our defense is aggressive at times, but it's also slow and lacks awareness. So yes I agree it's coaching when all your players play the same way. Our defense seems to do alright against poor offenses. If we play anybody with any sort of offense though, our defense has too many weaknesses and the floodgates open.
