Players ain't winning this. Next year's negotiations are gonna be rough... might see a strike.

Looks like commissioner will put a very short season in place that pays players their prorated salary.

It’ll be interesting to see if any fans attend games though. I know Texas has already come out and said 50% capacity. Wonder if other states will follow.

I think this was the players conceding. They know they're only going to get paid for about 48 games, so why negotiate themselves into playing 70? And you're right, they're going to remember this next year. I doubt we see a full season then either.

As with any negotiation, there is room for both sides to make some concessions. However, I think the players are more in the right on this one.

The owners are pissing away a great opportunity to go into next year’s CBA discussions on a very positive note.

Just a ****** instigation by the owners here.

”The MLBPA understands the agreement reached on March 26th was premised on the parties’ mutual understanding that the players would be paid their full salaries only if play resumed in front of fans.”

Really? Then release the agreement that both parties signed on March 26th that clearly shows that language spelled out. Oh wait, they can’t, because they didn’t put it in there. Given that NBA had already postponed play and the NCAA tournament had already been cancelled by March 26th, there is no way the omission of the “fans in attendance” language could have been done in negligence. This was a deliberate bait-and-switch play by the owners so they could come back later and paint the players as the bad guys, which is exactly what they are doing. I don’t blame the players at all for calling it what it is.

I don’t blame the players either. The owners signed an agreement, then got greedy & want to change it.

If they have no season this year do the players get paid?

I’m sure it’s something that would drag into courts but if the owners had to pay the players regardless of games why would there have ever been any back and forth negotiations?

Yep. It's going to be painful. And then on top of it there is going to be major restructuring at the minor league level and the draft too.

In my opinion the changes to the minors and the draft will be better for the game in the long run but short term it's going to be painful. Not to mention the bad blood between the owners and the players. It comes down to the owners want to save as much as possible and the players want to make as much as possible. As it always has been.

They'll probably end up firing the commissioner to solve it.
