No way he makes it to Starkville. He looked real good and was one of the major talks of the combine. Would have to be “he just wanted to play college ball”. Top 10-15 pick
He was already the #56 prospect before the combine, so it’s not like the chances were that great to begin with.

I’d guess it’s just a basic business decision at this point. We’ve definitely made him a great NIL / Rev Share offer. If MLB exceeds that substantially, he’s gone. If they only match it, who knows? If they don’t match it, he’ll be at MSU.

That number required to sign him is probably at least $3 million or so, because he’d definitely get that here over 3 years. That slot value is currently the #32 pick. So, you can reasonably assume if he’s a 1st rounder he’s gone, but 2nd rounder or below, it’s a “maybe” and probably wait it out to see if a team will go over-slot to sign him. But they’ll probably already know they have him and have a deal worked out in principle, if he’s selected that high.

Some of you REALLY overinflate NIL. Especially baseball. At this point I'm just convinced you want to make it sound as bad as possible, for fun or something.

I think it's a longshot, but I wouldn't say it's 100% that he's gone...even if he's a 1st round pick.

His dad seems really be proud of being a former Bulldog, and I get the idea that it may mean a lot to them (family).

The way he put on a show yesterday at the combine with all of these announcers and a couple of retired GM's gushing over him...He may have moved to R1 status

How is it overinflated? If you want to get a potential high draft pick to college, are you even trying if you don’t offer NIL / rev share deal at least equal to the signing bonus slot value required?

$1 million per year is the minimum amount it takes to land a first round talent in the SEC. If you’re that good, and you are choosing a school over both MLB draft offers and other schools, that’s what it takes. Simple math.

I think JT was the last one that we landed. Dodgers took him R1 and he passed. If my memory serves me correct
Yes, that’s correct. Dodgers took a risk, and picked him even though they didn’t know if they could hit his number. They had the lowest bonus pool available out of any team that year, and blew a ton of it on later picks. They offered him well under slot for the pick, and he passed.

2 years later, the Mets drafted him in the mid-2nd round while he was literally rehabbing from TJ surgery, and he still got a higher bonus payout than what his slot value was as a 1st rounder in 2018. So, it turned out pretty okay for him.

If you get high first round money, there no debate. But if anyone is doing the evaluation right, the decisions can get a lot more complicated than just which offer is more.

Baseball players only get these pay days:
NIL every year of college
Your draft signing bonus
Big league salary once you make the majors

And the last step to an MLB contract act is the longest shot to ever land. Should you take a $1 million signing bonus over a $400,000 per year NIL deal? Maybe. Maybe not. If you never make the Majors then you just gave up $1.2 million over 3 years plus the potential signing bonus when you get drafted, which could be zero, a bit, or another big lump sum. But there ought to be a lot of weight given to preserving that draft signing bonus to stack on top of your NIL.

I think you are forgetting the greatest pay day of all:

Playing at Dudy Noble for the greatest baseball fans in the world. PRICELESS!!
