College administrators can be over credulous and agents sell projects. A smart AD ignores that and asks the right questions. I don’t remember anyone wetting their pants over Pelini taking the job. Bo very much took over a roster ready to win and was lucky and able to recruit and develop talent to keep winning. This job now requires a person that can attract talent to Lincoln so that the roster can look a little more like the ones Pelini had. Lavonte David and Randy Gregory type talent = beating the teams you are supposed to and battling with the upper echelon of the league.
Joseph seems to already have forged better relationship among the players than Frost did in four years. He, Whipple and Busch show evidence of being able to make adjustments in game. Joseph has earned a look for the job based upon his record and productivity in his short time in Lincoln.

Noone thought at the time after the 2007 season we had a roster ready to win.

His record is 2-2. How does that scream that he is ready for a big time job like Nebraska?

Lol why are you guys giving this dunce serious responses?
I think he's inadvertently brought up a good point.. It's not always about getting the best coaches, but also about keeping them. At this point, it seems premature to talk about it, but I could see an enterprising AD already scheming, that if MJ is not named HC, he may go after him. This is not beyond the realm of possibility, with ESG and that whole angle too. I'm not giving it too much thought, but someone will at the minimum be thinking about a steal, if they think they can do it.

good point. and OP didn't even say for "head coach". i think most schools would love to have him as a WR coach

Yeah I was also, then Nebraska and TO did a Nebraska and TO thing and went cheap on assistants.
Not really. Tom wanted to keep the offensive staff largely intact. He thought if he fixed the D that would cause the least disruption and Bo got to chose his defensive assistants. I would say it actually worked pretty well considering how weak some of Bo's hires on defense were. Part of that was it was pretty easy to coach the talent that Callahan left.

most people were thrilled we just hired the DC of the defending national champions
I wouldn't say thrilled. There were some that loved Bo, but most of us just trusted that Tom knew what he was doing. Bo was down the list of options for me.

No offense, but you can’t have Bill O’Brien as your dream hire and expect people to take your opinion seriously

He's not my "dream" hire. He's just the best available experienced head coach out there. He won at PSU with a depleted roster and a lying bunch of scumbags for an administration. They lost a good chunk of their 2 deep to transfer when the sanctions hit. He actually recruited extremely well hauling in classes full of 4 star recruits while that was going on. He left the program in really good shape considering the recruiting sanctions. Obviously I would like a guy with a better personality that O'Brien but at this point in time I think he's what we need.

TO can't help that he likes to be cheap. Most old guys from the Era are.

Bo was extremely popular his first 3 years here and I think the hire most fans wanted, though some would have preferred Gill. Outside of that, there wasn't a whole lot of support for other options. Again you're rewriting a history that's unequivocally false.

I was a Gill or”other” guy. There were several other popular options at the time. Pelini was really kind out of the blue in my book. Yeah there were people pushing him as the ADept leaked his name but early on it was mainly about other head coaches.

I wanted Pelini he was popular to start....but he kind of wore on you like a self-righteous over educated bicoastal white limousine liberal.

Watson and Ganz got some stuff cooking once Keller went down, and I think TO liked Wats and wanted some continuity. Bo hired Cotton, Ron Brown and Beck as offensive assistants.
