If Owen can win out in WHC from now on we can finish 3rd and get a home playoff game. That’s the goal from this point
I don’t think think nor any sane person think that MH is relevant this year. We just know that this is just a down season and we won’t stay down for long. Draughn and Mitchell are the teams to beat this year as you should know firsthand.
Been around Burke and McDowell Counties my whole life...wouldn't necessarily call myself a fan but am definitely pulling for them. It's great to see what has happened there over the last few years
I know you think I hate Owen but I'm not saying this to be mean or anything but even if Owen wins out they'll be 4-7 and just like last year they'll be the 2A champion by beating Madison but even being in 3rd place probably won't give them a home playoff game because no matter your standings in a conference if your under .500 then you're seeded with the rest of the at-large teams not the automatic qualifiers. That's why Owen was seeded where they where last year not because they finished 4th overall which wouldn't have mattered because they where the 2A champ in a split conference but because they were under .500 one more win and they'd been seeded with the other automatic qualifiers.
You have to be top 3 overall OR have a .500 win percentage to be seeded with conference champs. So if Owen wins the 2A part and finishes in the top 3, they would be seeded based on RPI with the rest of the conference champions. If they do not finish in top 3 and do not have a .500 win percentage they would still automatically qualify for the playoffs but would be seeded with the wild card teams based on RPI.

Want Owen to improve and it will help the conference teams to become stronger. Owen has some good players and they need some confidence. Think some of last year’s problems has lingered on this year.
Mitchell by 14. Draughn will keep it close but don't think they have enough defense to slow down Mitchell's running game.
I think Draughn was missing the Dula kid at running back in the East Burke game.
Wow Mitchell decent. Fairly organized, line good, quarterback 70% but still good, running backs skill set will only increase with his inability to run as much, will cause substantial harm also.

Must be a draughn fan. Overrated just like their team. Never saw a bigger joke of one than last year. Get your kids in the weight room. Get them fast. Mitchell will destroy you.
Erwin is no rollover and Mitchell went toe to toe with Watauga.
Mitchell's schedule alone has produced much more of a battle test than Draughn's Basement Dweller Tour.
Many people are talking up Draughn but we know how this one will go.

One thing for sure moving it to Thursday was a no bainer. According to the Weather channel right now Thursday 7pm 64° 10 pm 57° 7mph wind 0% chance of rain.

Draughn’s QB has put up 21 TDs in 6 games and 6 of them have been rushing. The kid put on 25 lbs in the off season and is a big part of their offense. You can’t compare last year to this year because it’s a completely different team. If Mitchell’s DBs are as bad as the film shows from they games draughn will win by 14+.
Sorry it won’t let me copy and paste from the news paper. He’s got 15 passing TDs and 6 rushing TDs in 6 games with only 3 INTS. The kid already holds 3 offers and it appears an offer from. app state is imminent based on his twitter and the post app state keeps making. Either way it’s going to be a good game. Max Preps stats aren’t updated until the end of the season.
Let it be said that I always want the "kids" to do great no matter what school they attend. Having said that and that I use to live in Valdese and loved it, if Draughn beats Mitchell or even comes with in 21 points of Mitchell I will attempt to drink all the water out of Lake Rhodhiss.
Last year, I was also at that Draughn Mt Airy game, and I am sorry but Draughn could not have beat Mt Airy's JV or Middle School Team. I hope they are better, even hope they are greatly better, but if they are it is because they went to the portal and transferred in 10 to 15 players.

Not taking shots at Owen but ask them how nice the QB is. He’s got 10 TDs in last two games. Better check his resume and watch the film on his twitter. Not the same team from last year. Bigger, stronger, and faster
I truly hope so. Loved living in Valdese. Built a home there right below the cemetery and overlooking town.
Draughn may win but a shootout indicates to me a high scoring game with a lot of passing and the nether defense having much success.(of course I get you may just mean offences having their way). But if nether D has success tonight then I don't see a shootout as far as high scoring because if Mitchell offense has their way it will be long time eating drives to and keep Draughn offense off the field. And if the QB is putting up the numbers meationed that would probably be their best strategy.
As most games it will probably come down the the line scrimmage will Mitchell's line be able make holes for the run and will Draughn's line be able to protect and give the QB time.
He hasn’t been sacked all season. O Line has done a great job and the new LT just arrived at DRAUGHN over the summer. 6’3 290 lb kid.
Then as always between two good teams something gonna give , Mitchell's had 13 sacks so far a has a some 6'3" guys themselves.
I'd feel a lot better about this game if Mitchell QB was a 100% and I haven't heard anything about RB G Young's shoulder.
Just out of curiosity last night at church a couple people say they'd never heard of Draughn until last year and wasn't even sure where the school was. I told them where it is but one thing I couldn't answer or find online it's the first school that I've looked up that doesn't have a Wikipedia listing just saw from local paper that it was built in 2008 but couldn't read the article unless you subscribe. So my question is what schools did Draughn come out of ? From what I can tell I see all the schools I know of in Burke county is still there so was it a case instead of a consolidation of the county just needed a new school for the population?
Can we just appreciate the fact that DRAUGHN is being talked about.... and it’s not “they totally suck” conversation. I have seen them play off and on for years and to see them actually doing good is nice.
i completely agree with that. i just see first hand the change in the culture at draughn over the past few years and to see them now with the roster they have is something special. Mitchell is always top dog in this conference and last years stomping of draughn in my opinion woke draughn up.

draughn has been open 15 years. Draughn pulled from EB. Patton was created at the same time and split freedom. Eastern part of burke county ( draughn and East burke) Western part of county (morganton) patton and freedom
