It will be 3 years before we get to 85 true scholarship players in Football and we will probably be a worse team next year overall .... Basketball has the roster talent of a Rick Ray team and both Football and Basketball have over the hill coaches with bad systems.... I guess Cohen will try to hang his hat on Baseball and Women’s basketball to keep fan interest over the next few years.... but it looks like a bad 3-5 years for MSU Athletics unless we get a competent AD soon.. which we wont.

Unless QB play gets worse next year, hard to believe the football team won’t improve the overall result.

Don’t care about basketball.

You are a moron if you are calling leach’s system bad after 7 games.

An absolute moron.

Why can’t we get to 85 scholarship players? Serious question. We can’t sign more this year and next to make up for all open spots?

Nope can only sign 26 this year and 25 the year after... if we get anyone from the Transfer Portal, they count against the signees as well

I’ll admit I have nothing to support this statement...it’s difficult to believe that waivers won’t be considered to allow transfers to fill out the roster or at least go beyond 26 signees with the pandemic. Heck, most schools could have 100 players on scholarship next year due to that.

You told us we never had a chance in this game so just keep on guessing. It’s almost
to the point where you had rather our teams struggle so you can say you were right about Cohen rather than, I don’t know, rooting for them to win.

The only things that have happened since your last thread ranting on Cohen are two piss poor outings by the men’s basketball team coached by a hire Cohen didn’t make and two rather impressive outings in games most said we never had any business competing, which includes you.

We will be improved on offense next year, but our schedule isn't favorable at all. I think 6 is the ceiling, with losses Aub, Bama, Arkansas, A&M, possibly, LSU, NC State, and Ole Miss to be realistic.

I’m not happy about the game tonight. We are too inconsistent offensively and shoot ourselves in the foot too much. Sucks to lose two close games in a row.

But what in the hell leads you to believe that we will be worse next year? We should take a step forward.

Okay so lets fire Cohen and hire Byrne back. 3-5 years of sucking becomes zero years of sucking....how exactly?

Bama and A&M are probably our only 2 guaranteed losses of those teams.

Agree with you. If you can’t be happy about the effort that has been put forth the last two weeks by young men that had every reason to lay down, then you really need to take a step back. I am not defending Cohen, and I am not a fan. If we get the same effort out of our guys, regardless of how many of them may or may not be on scholarship, then we are going to win games over the next few years.

We are not doomed to suck for 3-5 years. Dear Lord, some of y’all need to step away from the ledge and get out of your feelings. OM isn’t really a good team, but they don’t suck either.

We lost a road rivalry game by one score to an average team that had 30 more scholarship players than us. We are starting more freshmen than anyone in America. Our offense is still progressing and having some consistency issues. And we still had a chance to win at the end.

I expect us to continue improving offensively these last two games and take a step forward next season.

Why would this team be worse next year? Losing Eroll Thompson will hurt for sure but there is plenty of room for growth in virtually all other positions. If Arnett leaves I will be less optimistic but I think the offense is going to be much better. Cohen sucks for a number of reasons but hiring Leach was a pretty safe bet. Given that Leach was a fallback plan I think it worked out fairly well.

****, Auburn isn’t a guaranteed loss this year and they may have a new HC next year. You never know what that program is going to look like from week to week.

Disagree on football. I think it would be hard for the football team to be worse next year. We are playing with the roster size of a 1A high school and competing right now. Truthfully, if we had any semblance of a secondary, we probably beat both Georgia and Ole Miss.

Now basketball... yeah, we suck and it’s hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Rick Ray zapped the basketball fan in me. I can’t seem to get back into college basketball. The little I have watched Howland, we have no identity on offense. Just look lost.

Ben Howland reminds me of Joe Biden

and im not trying to turn this political by any means.....Joe is slipping between the ears.....something tells me that Howland is too, and recruits see that....

purely a guess though, no facts to back up the part on howland.

Liberty has a better athletic department when it comes to the revenue generating sports than Miss State. Think about that for a moment. There’s a lot of work to be done in Starkville.

You’re an idiot
We return 56 underclass men (may have missed one or two). There’s a chance 2-3 seniors return. So let’s still say 56 for my math errors. Let’s say 6 more players leave. We’re at 50. We will sign 26. We’re at 76. And that is an extremely conservative number. I don’t know if your math is bad or you’re just an idiot

Lol

Mississippi's three FBS universities combined to make almost a quarter of a billion dollars in athletics revenue during the 2018-19 fiscal year.USA TODAY compiled the financial data in partnership with Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
Unsurprisingly, SEC stalwarts Ole Miss and Mississippi State rank among the most profitable athletics departments in the country.
Mississippi State raked in $112,273,809 in revenue in 2019, ranking No. 30 in the country in total revenue. That's an increase of $9 million over 2018 and revenues that have more than tripled since 2009.
Ole Miss lagged a little bit behind Mississippi State, ranking No. 34 in the country by bringing in $108,442,428. That number is actually a slight decrease from 2018 when the Rebels made more than $110 million. Ole Miss saw a significant drop-off in contributions in 2019, earning about $7 million fewer than it did a year before.

My bad - I should have had a cup of coffee before making that post. I’d argue that Liberty has a better football team than Miss State and dang sure has a better basketball team. Those are the two primary revenue generating sports. Liberty doesn’t receive SEC welfare money, so that school doesn’t have the same “revenue”. My original post was poorly constructed. I still believe there is a lot of work to be done in M State’s athletic department that hopefully will be accomplished over the next couple of years. Current leadership is not exactly awe inspiring

Liberty just built a new $65 Million state of the art basketball arena... they limited the seating to around 4000 to make it a hard ticket to get on purpose .. we have The Hump.

We have Vandy and KY from the East next year and there is no reason to believe OM or NC St will be better than us next year and both games will be at home. We beat OM on the road yesterday with a full roster
