Watching it now. Everybody played great. Played well as a team. Obviously Perry. So, as far a as less heralded players go, I thought Ado played a hell of a game. Played within himself. Putbacks and rebounds and had some nice blocked shots.

They all played well. Tyson really made some athletic plays going to the bucket. Nick had his most complete game. Great team win.

I thought the biggest shot of the game was Woodards 3 from straight away as we were stretching the lead. The impact he can have on a game while only taking 7 shots is so impressive. He may be my favorite Dawg since Timmy.

Woodard's form on that shot was almost perfect. He was very good against uf, missed just one shot and was perfect from 3 and FTs.

Ado is exponentially better than 2 years ago. He still has his moments in the paint where when the ball is dropped off to him in congestion, there is a good chance he fumbles it around and its a turnover, but that scenario is a lot less frequent now. And he has broken the press for us multiple times this season!
His hands are much improved, his footwork is better, and he is more aggressive. He took a jumpshot a couple games ago and has driven the lane a few times this season too!

Whats crazy to see is that his PPG was highest as a freshman, but he also took the most shots per game as a freshman. His games against Kstate and Radford were great- scored, rebounded, and shot FTs well.

It surprised me that the commentators said Woodard is the better NBA prospect

over Perry but the more you watch him there are moments where you see his potential is way up there.

A few things that stood out to me...

1) what is it gonna take for Ado to get a call? Sheez, that poor guy gets hammered going to the rim a minimum of 3-4 times/gm, but he can’t buy a foul seemingly ever

2) starting to see flashes again of why Nick was so highly rated coming out of HS. He’s not the tallest guy in the world, and he’s gonna have to learn to settle down at times, but his athleticism is 5* level

3) this team doesn’t have much quit in them which is a great trait. Let’s face it, probably half of us changed the channel ten minutes in, but the team has twice now battled back from being down big early. Fans will hopefully start to get behind this mentality

4) Perry’s a beast, but man he’s got to get the TOs under control. If not for Ado and Nick successfully scrambling after some errant passes, Perry would’ve hit double digit TOs on Tuesday night

I always watch to see how he catches the ball in the paint. I usually cringe. I could be remembering this wrong, but I think he really caught the ball down low well. Didn't fumble it much. To me it's amazing how just the slightest threat from Ado can open things up for Perry. Against Florida he played the kind of game we need him to play to make us better. He is actually pretty good with that baby hook when he goes up with it. I wish he would try that more.

Can't be overstated. Tyson's drives to the bucket really broke UF's defense on a few occasions. Tyson is close to really getting a complete game, because he has learned to use his outside shooting threat to get people off their feet, and then he is pretty explosive to the basket and has a nice touch around the rim. What's more he has added that mid-range pull-up jumper that is so often missing from player's repertoires. Tough to know how to guard somebody when they can beat you at every level in the half court.

I think what a referee expects to see clouds their judgment when it comes to what they actually see. Ado so often loses the ball in traffic that even when it's because he gets hacked on the arm, it's like their subconscious tells them it's just his stone hands in action again.

To jump on the Ado-loving bandwagon this thread has turned into, that's a pretty standard Ado game and has been for most of his career.

People always say we need "a Brandon Vincent type." I know sometimes that's in jest, but when it's serious, I assume people mean a player who does all the little things others don't want to do, plays within himself, and whose impact will never be fully reflected in a box score. Ado is that.

You could be right. Ado is far from a finesse player, and those guys do tend to get a lack of calls in both college and NBA games. Unfortunately, it can be true on the defensive end as well, and even when Ado makes a great block, the ref is thinking “well he must’ve fouled him”

I will say that he has made TONS of improvement in that respect. He’s finally able to be pretty active and even aggressive on defense without getting into immediate foul trouble these days

Woodard has barely scratched the surface of his potential. He is consistent, efficient, and mentally tough. He's averaging a QUIET 11.8 ppg and 7.4rpg. Ball handling/security are Woodard's current weaknesses.

Perry is no doubt a top talent. Consistent effort and mental toughness are his two weaknesses.

As has been mentioned before, drafts (regardless of sport) are all about developmental potential. Yes, stats matter, but you are drafted according to what an organization feels you could become given their resources.

I'll take a phrase from Geico and Pinocchio "Untapped Potential".

I'm going to open myself up for some harsh comments. Ado has terrible hands and feet and yes, he has improved but not significantly. He constantly brings the ball down (allows steals) and his leaping ability is limited. He just has poor basketball instincts. Teams have learned to double and trap off the screens that Ado sets because he has no offense outside 2 feet. He makes our offense predictable.
Nick and Tyson won that Florida game. Nick has settled into his role , but why oh why didn't Nick push the ball on the final possession at Oklahoma? I love how Nick lives and dies on each possession. I can take his obvious frustration over not giving a 17. Carter drove the ball and finished at the rim. His only miss (deliberately?) was cleaned up by Perry. Woodard frustrates the heck out of me. His metrics must be rated well by NBA scouts. Watch him on defense. He gets lazy and does not put his body in the proper position. He could be so much better, but his tools are off the charts good. Perry needs to mature as teams will try to "get his goat". NBA body. Lastly, I get the impression many broadcasters including ex-coaches believe we have the most talented squad in the SEC.

Ado is for sure limited. But I disagree that a big man who isnt developed offensively makes an offense predictable(maybe ours becomes predictable, but disagree there too). Teams across the country for years have had big men that arent developed on offense, and offenses werent predictable or stymied.
Yes, if Ado had a jump shot it would open up the paint a lot more, but as it is he doesnt live in the paint and he forces his man to follow him to the perimeter thru high ball screens. If his defender doesnt follow, then its wide open shots for our guards coming off the screens.
So he does draw out defenders and his current abilities dont necessarily clog the middle.

I will agree that when he has the ball on the perimeter, there is no reason to defend him so i guess its predictable that he will pass it...but that doesnt seem to me like the offense is therefore predictable.

I feel like Ado has been here forever, and this isn’t even his last year of eligibility.

Agree with most of your post, except Ado's feet. For a big man, he has great feet. It's just his basketball experience is limited and he is still learning. As we know, Ado played soccer until high school so his years of actually playing basketball is very limited, like 5 yrs. When I coached my son's 5th/6th grade team, I had players that were 12 yrs old with more experience than that. Hopefully Ado will continue to improve and be a more vital player for us next season when Perry is gone to the NBA.

Wasn't he in school but had to sit out a year for eligibility reasons? Something about grades getting slow transfer approval from the high school he went to in Africa.

I know that this is cliche to say, but Ado really is a case of a player whose impact doesn’t always show up on the stats sheet. He is constantly clogging lanes and making life difficult for guys in the paint, but there’s no stat for stopping a drive or forcing an errant pass.

He may not light the scoreboard up and there are times when his aggression gets him out of position, but we are completely different defensively when he’s not in the game, and not in a good way.

If you look at where Ado was and where he is now it is really impressive. You can nitpick his game as much as you want but he is the key for us to make it to the post season because of his rebounding and defense. I love what the kid has done since he has been here. He is a lunchbox player.

Of course if you want something different we can always see if Big Feces has any eligibility left.
