We’ve had the Miracle at the Meadowlands and the Music City Miracle.

Today we witnessed one more: the Miracle Next To Mackey.

If this improbable ending against the perennial Big10 doormat doesn’t get the Rutgers fan base pumped for the rest of the season and the next five years of Schiano (before the next extension), nothing will.

Oh piss off, will you. On a macro level, the D isn’t fixable, but get off your high horse with this miracle garbage. That unit deserves credit. After the goal line stand at the end of Q1 those kid locked in, played their hearts out and earned the win. They forced that game winning turnover which they haven’t done much of all season. And when our offense had stumbled at midfield with an uncharacteristic fumble of their own a few series before, the defense held to get them the ball back. They made some huge stops in this game and earned the win.

He’s not the only one pissing all over this.

I still think Smith should get the axe. But this is about the kids. The D showed up today and they aren’t getting enough credit. No - they weren’t perfect, but there were so many times in the game where they previously would’ve lay down and died in past weeks but they found a way this time. I don’t want to hear how bad Purdue is. This D couldn’t stop Ohio. After a dreadful first quarter they showed some fight with the goal line stand. Then at the start of the 3rd after giving up the TD and the offense went 3 and out that was a crossroads of sorts where they could’ve just rolled over and died. Another Purdue score likely puts things out of reach. But again they showed fight forcing a punt. Then when the offense fumbled the ball at the 46. Getting a stop there was huge. The D did a lot of positive things today for the first time all season.

With a secondary so porous it seems like they play blindfolded, wouldn’t you think Schiano would pay attention and notice the uncovered wideout and call TO there ?

All you care to do is focus on Schiano. It’s sick, and that’s why so many posters have you on ignore. Greg isn’t getting fired midseason regardless so what’s the point of nitpicking every decision he makes right now.

Shout out to Duff and Athan for excellent games but the defense earned the game ball in this one as far as I’m concerned and it’s disgusting for our fans to be picking at them after this game. They started out the season with a pitiful showing where they forced a grand total of 2 punts the entire game against a MAC team. That was our starting point, and yesterday we finally saw improvement. They forced 5 punts (several at critical times with their back against the wall), a goal line stand to force a FG, and forced a game winning fumble turnover for the cherry on top.

Of course he’s not getting fired. But it’s not nitpicking to point out blunders even in wins. Another was the short kickoff at the end giving Purdue a better opportunity to win with a FG. Even if we had a solid secondary, which we don‘t by any stretch of the imagination, it gave Purdue a better chance at getting into FG range even with no TOs left. KO should have been to the EZ or near like all the others rather than kicking to the short guy who could have run it even 5 or 10 more critical yards

It didn’t end up mattering, nor did the two undefended touchdowns, but it’s not nitpicking to point out coaching fails.

Thanks for proving my point about nitpicking - that was not a “blunder”. It was an intentional decision based on the fact that on our last kick off we had a special teams breakdown that allowed Purdue to start at the Rutgers 41 (practically in FG range). Big deal - we gave them the ball at the 33 instead of the 25. Maybe in your mind those 8 yards was worth taking the chance of disaster but most would disagree.

False. When it comes to reaching FG range with little time left and no timeouts, 8 yards does matter a lot, and the return guy could have run for more. Schiano didn’t know he wouldn’t.

Are you kidding? You just keep digging yourself deeper into stupidity here. No return was happening unless our kicker screwed up and didn’t put the ball where it was intended to go - in which case the “blunder” you might argue would be that we didn’t intentionally kick it out of bounds and let them start at the 40. It was a well executed design play with our coverage surrounding the entire vicinity of the returner because everyone on our ST unit clearly knew exactly where it was going. Did you not realize that a fair catch was signaled immediately? The opposite of a mistake.

I am just going to say Shelby is more right than anyone else here. The defense was horrible again yesterday. Coaching staff gets an F. They only won because it was Purdue and a miracle play. Outside of Duff no one was great today.

Yes, after. Your hyperbole doesn’t win here.

8 yards matter in that late game situation, and it could have been more unless Schiano knew he’d FC it.

Bad decision by that player too.

Okay sure - that’s why the announcers literally said it as we lined up - “will Purdue return another one? Nope - it looks like Schiano won’t give them a chance.” No player in their right mind wouldn’t call for a FC in that situation.

Again, spare us the hyperbole: no player … and it’s ’his’, not ‘their’ btw.

You’re judging the decision by the outcome. Is it a good decision to drive 130 on the Turnpike if you don’t crash ? Was it a good decision for Bielema to try a 58 yarder into the stiff wind ?

Fact is, you don’t have a high football IQ either. Every yard matters. Return yards matter. Are you in favor of RU fair catching everything too Ms. Schiano ?

Especially in that situation, a return was even more critical. The player should have returned it, trying for every extra yard he could get because he had time. He should not have signaled right away.

Just because it was a bad decision by Purdue doesn’t make it a good decision by Schiano #ice the kicker

Ok- let’s see.
Raymond- workhouse they had such a difficult time stopping. Benjamin just gashed them every run. DT and Black with super critical catches. AK- monster game
Defense does have its issues. But more stops than misses.
And anyone that uses “miracle play” has no football IQ.
I also would guess that most bitching about the win also had us losing to Purdue prior to the game…

the jury is still out for me on the staff but these kids played their asses off today.
BTW- outside of Oregon, we list 3 close games. We were not blown out in any of them.

It really was miraculous how we won yesterday.

Schiano plays for the overtime - which was wrong - but got bailed out on a fumble rooski that usually would happen to us.

Had Purdue not fumbled the odds were quite good of a last second FG win by Purdue or even a TD.

Those 8 yards mattered significantly !

Like it or not-Schiano is feeling the heat and rightfully so!

shelby is having a mental health crisis since Rutgers football won a game. It’s his least favorite thing that could happen. Would suggest professional help or finding other hobbies that bring joy

We beat a 2-5 team that fumbled to give us the win. Let’s slow down on the miracle talk.

I don’t know how anyone can say the D was point blank awful.

Explain? The D failed on the 2 opening drives of the halves. We adjusted well both times for a stark change. They gave up under 200 total yards the rest of the game and 10 total points (7 of which came on the short field that our special teams breakdown gifted them. The other 3 came on the FG with the goal line stand). Was it perfect - no, but the D had a solid overall day. Ridiculous post.

BS on the miracle play reference. It was. Pass gets batted back to the QB and then a fumble. That doesn’t normally happen to us. And I also predicted us to win on this board. Greg was lucky to get that after the short KO and plenty of time left for Purdue to drive down and kick a winning football. Kudos to the kids but this coaching staff fails them time and again.

Also, your passive aggressive BS is off putting at times for someone with no real credentials.

My passive aggressive credentials are impressive- I am married to a Jamaican woman...

and when a unit has a "perfect" play that goes their way- it is not a miracle...All aspects of that play were textbook. and, the worst case- it is incomplete and Purdue with almost no shot at getting into FG range, stopping the clock and kicking it. So, OT at worst and we had been outplaying them most of the game.
