Didn’t he just get over mono? Never had it, but I hear it sucks and you basically are left with zero energy for weeks on weeks.

I’d give him some time before people start bagging on him. He was the heart of the team last season and the 9 games we won can be highly credited to his play.

Mintz has not played well so far
- 7pts a game and 4 boards a game with 37%FG and 31%3pt and 67%FT. Now he didn't get to play in a few of the scrub games to pad his stats ith the illness...but he needs to shoot it better for sure.

But why you want to see more of Wheeler is even worse.
- 9ts a game 40% FG 22%3pt ...now he does dish 8 assists per game but also turns it over almost 4 times a game.

But Mintz plays a good bit better on ball defense, does help on boards a bit and has a decent track record from last year he'll improve on those shooting stats. But Wheeler is exaclty what he's been for 2 years at UGA...which is more worrisome. Watching Notre Dame have his man stand at FT line and dare Wheeler to shoot was why we only scored 62 pts. Teams are going to play that strategy all the time now....

My question would be WHY should the PREMIER program in the country NEED to depend on a transfer form a non-power 5 school?????

Mintz should have NEVER been anything other than a steady player off the bench. His numbers are PEDESTRIAN, which should be expected.

The bigger question is WHY bring in a 5'8" PG that can't shoot and is a liability on defense and a scorer from Davidson that can't create his own shot and Cal NEVER runs sets to give him the opportunity to score??????

Cal has made some really odd roster moves the last 2 seasons

Guy plays hard and made some nice plays last night, he isn't the problem.
Actually, he is. If he hadn't missed every single 3 he shot Cats wouldve won.

Grady is a GREAT shooter, but Mintz constantly pulling the trigger from 3, early in the clock....RIDICULOUS

If you've ever tried to actually play basketball after being sick you would understand. Your limbs feel like cinder blocks and you feel like you're breathing through a straw. Those are just the physical effects not including the mental aspect.
Just my 2¢

hahaa....no Jeff. Cal is not telling Mintz to shoot a 3 just 5-6 seconds into the shot clock.
Uh, yes he is and if you were paying attention, all of them are doing it.

Everyone on this board, except you, knows Cal has told these guys to shoot the ball, or they're coming out. There was no other instructions, "you shoot the ball, or I'm taking you out"

You’re shitting on Mintz, but what about Brooks? Did you see what he did just before halftime? Of course you didn't.

Wrong again Jeff. He's telling them all to shoot if left open once the defense is set. Not run a fast break and jack up a 3. Big difference.
If you think im wrong, i dont care....believe what you want.

By the way, where do you sit? Or are you just running these assumptions from watching tv?

Is absolutely terrible. I'd rather see the Wheelers shorter duplicate out there than him. That is all.
The casual fans built Mintz to be much better than he is due to some bright spots last year. Fact of the matter is he was a bench guy at Creighton for years for a reason. This team is really missing Fredrick. Fredrick was one of the top role players in the country for a top 5-10 team. I don’t get into all the analytics for the college game but remember seeing Fredrick was one of the most efficient offensive players in the sport. Mintz has/had three things going for him: transition 3s, being a good kid, and not being Devin Askew. He’s easy to root for personally but just isn’t that dude sadly.

Find a comment anywhere from Cal that proves what you're claiming. You’re full of ****. He has said 20 times since the season started "you shoot the ball, or you're coming out". There was never any caveats to it. You’re making it up, because you know it's a bad idea and you don't want your hero to look bad.
Pathetic.

Mintz shoots as much as the ball hog in middle school. He reminds me of Jamal Murray in that he thinks he can shoot like Murray so he launches from anywhere at anytime.

His volume shooting and volume missing has killed us in our two losses. He does play hard, but we saw last year what happens when he is one of the main guys on the court for us. He is nowhere close to a winning UK caliber player.

Let’s be honest Jeff he didn’t mean run down and jack it up. At least I heard/saw it as if you have an open shot take it but didn’t quite feel like it meant just fire any shot up but I could be wrong.

His plus minus can’t be good. We are definitely less productive when he’s been on the court so far this season from what I’ve seen.

But that's not what he said at any point and since we're literally seeing his guys run down the court and shoot, simply because they're open, tells me that I'm right.

The shot Brooks took just before halftime, might be the dumbest shot a bad shooter could take given the situation. He’s a damn Junior for crying out loud.

Mintz has actually played good. Should be playing more than Wheeler and TyTy, especially during last game when both were horrible.

Dude Mintz has played decent. Maybe start a thread about how awful TyTy and Wheeler played.

Of course that's what Cal meant, only a moroon would think he meant you had to jack one early in the shot clock if you have the ball.

LOL....you're so lost, Jeff. You think when Cal says "if you dont shoot youre coming out" means take any shot possible? Oh Jeff, you're so lost i dont know if you're worth my time. It means ONCE THE DEFENSE IS SET AND YOURE OPEN. Not on a fast break or when the defense has broken down and heave up anything.

I cant believe your assumptions are ALL coming from that line Cal's said since day 1 of arriving in Lex. If anything, Cal is known for taking kids out of the game for taking 3's right after crossing half court.

You're the reason people think UK fans are idiots. Your knowledge of basketball is minimal to preach like you do.

BTW-- weren't you the one going on last year about how we need to shoot more 3's? The worst shooting team in UK history and you were preaching about shooting from outside more? LOST.

Jeff is next going to say Cal teaches them to heave it from half court or theyre coming out.

He's not the scapegoat. The entire team is struggling from 3. 24% the last 6 games. He's a solid player and he fights his *** off. He shot 37.8% from 3 last season. He's been back less than a week since he had mono. He's not this team's biggest worry. Let's re-visit this in a couple of weeks once he's fully back from that......Small sample size before illness, but he was shooting 10 for 22 from the floor and 5 for 11 prior to that.

I think he is recovering from an illness and not back to optimum condition. He'll be a big help soon in my opinion.
if he is sick, then he should not be playing

what was his excuse prior to the illness?

He makes too many stupid mistakes to be a 6th year senior, inconsistent shooter

NEVER understand all the hand wringing over him or Brooks during the summer

because that is all you can get when you miss on your main targets

UK is no longer the premier program, after last year & thus far this year, they are far from it
Kansas, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida are all licking their chops the stomp UK

wrong, Mintz got beat off the dribble when ND's FRESHMAN hit the 12' shot to put them ahead at the end of the game, but then again, UK couldn't stop anyone from penetrating all nigh

Grady may be a good shooter, but he can't create his own shot & this so called coaching staff isn't smart enough to run plays to get him open shots

yes, I saw how stupid Brooks was & a coach with any real guts would have made a point by keeping him on the bench the 2nd half
