If we get what it's looking most likely we get, we're looking at:
PG: TyTy backed up by Mintz
SG: Mintz backed up by Fredrick
SF/3G: Grady backed up by Allen
PF: Brooks backed up by Collins, at least on day 1.
C: Oscar backed up by Ware
With Toppin also getting minutes at 3 and 4 and Hopkins probably spot minutes.
You're way more optimistic than I am. 99/1 he goes pro in some way imo.50/50
On most of Cal's good teams, 3 guard lineups figured prominently. Playing jumbo lineups with a lack of shooters and/or ball handlers is more of a recent phenomenon.Although I think can sell to one more guard if can convince will play 3 guards a lot. And it's not like we haven't before (Ulis, Murray, Briscoe).
I don't think Cal ever utters the word platoon again. As it stands now I don't think Ware is going to get a ton of PT, espcially if we go 1x4. I would expect Oscar to play 25+mpg. His foul rate wasn't awful at WVU. Collins will get minutes there and we have a full blown (good) mess if Jackson returns....still have Brooks and Hopkins at the combo forward spot too.
I would think Ware will get no more than 10mpg.
Me neitherNah, I don’t think this is off base at all. I won’t know how to act with possible above average shooting as a unit, lol.
Man I’m not sure it’s possible to over value good shooting lol particularly in today’s games. Sadly the 99 team is the first UK team I can remember watching, (I was 7) so I missed some really amazing basketball lolMe neither. Good shooting has always been like a mandatory thing for me. To the point that I probably overvalue it. So, it’s been tough for most of the last decade & I’m almost giddy with the thought of perimeter shooting being a strength for a UK team again. We’ve had a cpl teams recently that weren’t bad. But, the 80s & 90s spoiled me.
I don't think Cal ever utters the word platoon again.
It has cost him in recruiting ever since.
Agree. As of today, not enough to do it.He doesn't have to say it to do it.
Agree totally. As long as Cal doesn’t promise anyone minutes that would work fine. Hope it happens.Screw platooning. Just use normal substitution patterns of bringing guys in or out. Tell the guys to play at 110% every second they are in, then signal when they need a breather. Playing in this manner it will be no problem at all to give 10 or even 11 guys adequate minutes and you wouldn't have to do a 5 for 5 substitution pattern (which is weird), but a staggered one which I prefer.
Hopkins will get more than spot minutesIf we get what it's looking most likely we get, we're looking at:

Agreed. Between both the 4 and 5 spots he’s behind Tshiebwe, Collins, Toppin, Brooks (?), and possibly even Hopkins at the 4.As it stands now I don't think Ware is going to get a ton of PT, espcially if we go 1x4. I would expect Oscar to play 25+mpg. His foul rate wasn't awful at WVU. Collins will get minutes there and we have a full blown (good) mess if Jackson returns....still have Brooks and Hopkins at the combo forward spot too.

Damn! Right there at the cut off line. If you loved shooting, then you would have went nuts with the ‘98 title team. Some of the best clutch shots you’ll ever witness condensed in one tournament. Hence the coined titled Comeback Cats.Man I’m not sure it’s possible to over value good shooting lol particularly in today’s games. I’m so jealous of every fan that grew up in that era.Damn! Right there at the cut off line. If you loved shooting, then you would have nuts with the ‘98 title team. Some of the best clutch shots you’ll ever witness condensed in one tournament. Hence the coined titled Comeback Cats.
He'd also be the natural leader for this team. He wants it.I think Mintz is a guy who would love the experience of playing in front of a packed Rupp and hear BBN on the road.
Don’t be. When many of us are long gone, you’ll be around watching some epic comebacks will see another shot heard across the bluegrass. The tradition never dies and you’ll have someone saying their jealous of you for not being there to see it.I’m so jealous of every fan that grew up in that era.
Great statement! I made it perfect. He [is] the natural leader for this team. He wants it.
1998 was my senior year in high school. Probably the greatest year in American history, imoI’m so jealous of every fan that grew up in that era.
Lmfao. Your teachers said the same! J/K1998 was my senior year in high school. Probably the greatest year in American history, imo
This was deep, man. Gave me chills. Well stated. Long live, the big blue nation!Don’t be. The beat goes on...
I do not see Hopkins starting ...Agree. As of today, not enough to do it.
Things change daily almost now though.
So it would be:
TyTy
Grady
Brooks
Hopkins
Oscar
Mintz
Allen
Frederick
Collins
Ware
?????
Opposite of what Norlander said. I wouldn’t put much stock into what KSR says, they’re guessing.KSR said today that Mintz as of today is leaning toward not coming back. I know he can change his mind but I think he goes overseas and get paid.
I’m so jealous of every fan that grew up in that era.
Me neither was just to seeif I could come up with a platoon as someone mentioned.I do not see Hopkins starting ...
You grew up in an amazing eraMy earliest UK memories are of Travis Ford. I was just a tad too young to be aware of the unforgettables, but I remember being aware of (but don't really remember watching) the 93 FF team. First game I know I distinctly remember watching, know where I was watching it, was the 95 SEC championship. My dad had gone to the tournament and I watched it at my grandpa's house. It was a hell of a time to grow up a Cats fan (for basketball, at least, first football game I attended was a beatdown by Florida).
Don’t forget Toppin.Agree. As of today, not enough to do it.

I knew I was forgetting someone. Thanks.Don’t forget Toppin.
We already have enough bigs. I’m going to consider Allen a guard for that reason if nothing else. Doesn’t matter because he’s a guard. He’s a perimeter player.Yeah but with CJ and Grady I see Dontaie as a primary 3 So I put him in the forward group.
If Mintz returns, that gives us five guys that can flat out stroke it! We also have a couple bigs that can shoot as well: Collins and potentially Hopkins. Of course, if we get Hardy, look out!I’m just amped to potentially have a grown man with 4+ years of college on his resume who can SHOOT!
I am going to wait and see what Collins brings to the table. If he can shoot the 3, he could give us a nice stretch big to go with the big bruiser inside (Tshiebwe). That is ideal. I just haven’t seen enough of him to really know how good he is on the perimeter. If Mintz returns, that gives us five guys that can flat out stroke it! Me either. I have seen enough to say he has a good stroke for a big. Whether or not Cal will use him that way, I don’t know. Cal is notorious for not allowing bigs to shoot from outside.I am going to wait and see what Collins brings to the table. True. But he did let Sarr step out. Travis in ‘19 shot outside some. Richards in ‘20 had the little jumper he was money with.Me either. I have seen enough to say he has a good stroke for a big. I don’t know. That’s a damn solid and experienced backcourt. Also, they can all score the basketball. I really like the structure of this roster.Very solid team. I don’t see it as a title contender, but if a couple guys end up better than expected, who knows. It feels like a safe 15-25 ranked team, which isn’t bad after the season we just had.
