Dude’s a shoot first PG. Averaged 19 ppg on 36% shooting. Is he a good fit?

Big time scorer but he's a terrible shooter. 38% overall FG% is rough.

He's also a horrible defender for a PG. His defensive rating would have made him the worst defender on this year's UK team by a full point.

Every one of these potential transfers that gets brought up, first thing I'm looking at is "can he shoot?" Maybe in other year, for other teams, a non shooter guy could be a good fit but we desperately need guys who can put the ball in the basket. Only way I'd want another non-shooter is if he was a point guard with HIGH to elite skills at penetrating, scoring at the rim, and setting up teammates for shots.

Looking at his stats he turns the ball over way to much for a point guard and we have that now

Just by looking at his stats aren’t really indicative of how good of a player he is, high volume scorer that is a bit overrated. But he is still a massive upgrade and worth looking into

We need someone that can shoot, pass and get past his man to open the offense.

The bolded being the most important IMO for Cal's Offense. A guy that can do that with ease usually has solid handles, is harder to pressure, and a strong defensive potential due to being quicker than who they are matched up with.

If I didn't have a stud (Wall, Fox, etc) coming in at PG and I was Cal, I'd get the fastest proven PG I could find in the portal or in the top 10 position ratings in the HS class.

Have you seen the mock drafts? Even Google don’t know who some of these people are. If a player is moderately good, he would enter the draft.

From Pitt to Minnesota to........???

Carr is definitely the best available pg.
I'd take him or KyKy in a heartbeat. Tandy's mentality has changed for the better and I think he'd fit in now. Just having a pg whose experienced, can create off the dribble, and knock down 3's would be MONUMENTAL for next season.

Just looking at his stats a couple things stood out to me. He shot 36% from 3 his sophomore year which is pretty good. Also averaged 6.7 assist a game to go along with 15ppg & 5.3 rebounds as a sophomore. That's a big time guard numbers in one of the best leagues. His numbers took a slight dip outside of ppg this year but I don't think we could get a better transfer at the PG spot than this kid. We dont need a PG to shoot 40% from 3 but we BADLY need one to be a playmaker. I've watched him play several times at Minnesota and he hit some big shots for them late in games.

I'm not taking a position on whether UK should or should not go after Carr. Calipari and his staff can figure that out 1000x better than me. But, Carr looks like an extreme volume shooter who doesn't have a good percentage from either inside or outside the 3 pt. line. He does, however, have a 2-to1 assist to turnover ratio; and for a guy who shoots so often he makes Brandon Boston blush, he averages almost 5 assists per game. On the other hand, I guess a guy who has the ball all the time - in his case, almost literally all the time - would probably have to have some assists or the team wouldn't have any.

Go get Powell and put him and Allen on the court open up driving lanes for Carr. Then you got Oscar to clean up the misses.

I would wait and see what happens with Pippen at Vandy, I'd take him and his shooting over Carr.

Marcus Carr had to shoot a lot of contested shots because he was Minnesota's offense. He's not a bad shooter, and would help Kentucky, or anyone.

I can see him dragging this out to the very last day of decisions. He seems like he would rather go pro. I would wait and see if other options open up.
