If you’ve been following Duke basketball for a while, you know these two cites have a lot in common: all 5 of Duke’s National Championships were won in either Minny or Indy. Guess where the 2019 Final Four will be this year?

Also, in order to get there, Duke will have to make the Elite 8. Duke has not gone to back-to-back Elite 8’s since ‘98-99.

Just something to think about as we endure this week layoff. Sure the team still has a long way to go and we have to avoid the injury bug, but I like where we stand after 10 games.

The 'Apolis's have been very good to us. I'm not sure if it's that or if it's the fact that I attended the Final 4 in 01, 10, and 15. I'll be going to Minny if were in it this year.

Did some additional digging.

Since Duke won its first title in ‘91 (Indy), there have only been 3 occasions where we didn’t win it all when Indy hosted: 1997, 2000, 2006.

Every year that Minny has hosted (since 1991) Duke has won it ALL (‘92 and ‘01). 2019 will be Minny’s third time hosting since ‘91 and K is perfect in that city. Not sure if it’s a coincidence or what, but he sure looks like he may continue that streak. Also, with Tre Jones being from St. Paul you know that is extra motivation as well.

Indy will host again in 2021.

I know last year was the first time I became aware of the whole 2nd game vs. UNC thing. Where the winner of that game tended to do well in the Tourney and the loser did not.

Yep. Last year was my first year learning of that as well. The winner of the second regular season game went to at least the Elite 8 since Roy has been at UNC.

I like little nuggets like that. Just strange how those occurrences predict the future.

Yeah I’ve noticed you are all about these little nuggets. It’s good stuff. That 2nd UNC game thing is by far the most fascinating one to me. It’s quite the sample size.

Since we are all bragging about our impact on March Madness, I will point out that every year I have gone to a NCAAT game, Duke has won a championship (Cal 2010 and Gonzaga 2015). I don't have any immediate plans for this tourney, but if the team needs me, I am not afraid to travel last minute.

That’s what I’m talking about!

I’ve only been to three Duke games: 2 regular season and one ACC quarterfinal and Duke is 3-0 in such games.

I’m a good luck charm

Oh those wins were against BC and GT, lmao:)

2006 Duke vs Air Force in KC
2010 CBE classic in KC vs KState
2011 for K’s 903rd W to break a record at the Garden
2012 in Greensboro for LeHigh
2017 in Portland vs Texas for the PK80

4-1, but I feel like I’m forgetting a game. If so, we must have lost.

Like I said, I have been to all 3 of the final fours that we won. 2001 2010 and 2015. I did not attend 2004, feel like we have another title if I'm there.

I believe Duke is 10-2 when I go to a game, I have only been to Cameron once, and it was for 82-50.
Unfortunately, the 2 losses I witnessed was the 2002 Sweet 16 loss to IU at Rupp (heartbreaking, still not over it.) And January 2017 when we lost at Louisville, Capel was coaching, we were in turmoil, that was a bad stretch of games for that team. Wasn't a very exciting game.

I was at that K State game too (I live in KC). One of my favorite Duke games ever because the entire place was K-Staters. And I was at the the CBE in 2006 at the old Municipal Auditorium except I went to the championship game against Marquette in which we lost.

For all of you older guys, I was at Black Sunday in Reynolds Coliseum. I have stayed away from NCAA Tourney games since.

I was also at the 2017 @ Notre Dame game. For such a disappointing season, that game was awesome. There couldn't have been more than 100 Duke fans there, that arena became SILENT near the end of the game. I remember we hit shot after shot in the 2nd half and pulled away.

We had lost @ ND the 2 times we played there prior to that game.

Agreed jwill. I like Notre Dame’s Arena. My cousin and I went to the Irish pub near the stadium before attending the game. The Irish pub had a great atmosphere. I’m considering going to the games in South Bend and Louisville in January and February respectively when our Blue Devils go there, only bad thing is the Notre Dame game is on a Monday night and the Louisville game is on a Tuesday night.

Duke is 1-0 in games that I’ve been to. The one game that I’ve been to was against UNCG at the Greensboro Coliseum in December 2010, we won by like 40+ points and it was the game where Coach K tied Dean Smith fog second on the all time wins list.

I don't know how many total Duke games I've been to, but they've lost just twice when I've gone. The most recent was last March in Omaha....previously was the game in Madison during the 2009-10 season for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. My first game was the '92 Final Four.

I’ve been to many Duke games as well. I’ve only seen them lose once and that was to Providence in the ncaa tourney in Charlotte. Forget the year. I believe it was 1997? God Shamgod is a name I remember on that Providence team.

Shamgod had a pretty emphatic dunk at the conclusion of that game....the last of Capel's career in a Duke uniform. I believe that Providence team also had Austin Crosure, who would become a first-round pick.

We started five perimeter players in Wojo, Capel, Langdon, Carrawell and McLeod. Ricky Price and Mike Chappel were the primary bench players, with a little of Nate James mixed in. Greg Newton got hurt and was out.

I have lost count of the games I have been to at Cameron and several away games since the mid 70’s but I would say about 80 percent have been wins. If you throw away the down years in the 70’s and early 80’s it probably goes up to around 90 percent.

Question for someone older than me. The 1998 Duke team, I remember, but I was young so can't say I remember much. I see that team went 32-4 and 15-1 in the ACC and obtained a 1-seed. Were we national title worthy??

I ask that because some years we get a 1-seed and honestly I don't even think were that good, 2005 for example. Another reason I ask is because the 1998 team rarely ever gets discussed, I'm aware the 1999 team was better, but is 1998 rarely discussed because of how heartbreaking the tournament loss to UK was?? Which I understand.

Yes, 1998 was title worthy. Elton Brand was an absolute force....one of the best players in the country. We just completely collapsed against Kentucky in the Elite Eight. I think we were up 17 with eight minutes left. We manhandled them the first 30 minutes of that game. They actually went on to win the national championship.
