People are human and like different things. People do what they like Duke players or not. You think this is his first time? Cmon man. Our players are no better than others. Stop the morality brow beating. A weed charge is not career threatening. He will get counseling and be fine.
Don't think there's a fine until the second offense. NBA more concerned about things other than weed.

Why would anyone be surprised by pot use by any pro? As Joe Dumars said years ago, "If they tested for pot there would be no league."

Because he's a Plumlee and they left quite a legacy at Duke. I dont care what you say about everybody doing it- thats the "Carolina Way" out. I guarantee his mom, dad, K and others connected w/the program were surprised. OFC

Jeopardizing their career? You serious? Dude had some weed on him right? Is that all it was? Was it with intent to distribute or something? I saw he had the hefty $100 bail charge.

@timo0402, smoking weed, selling weed are all against the law. Yeah it doesn't paint him as a dealer, but nevertheless it not something an owner of a company, or a NBA team for that matters wants to pick up the paper and read about one of its employees. That's just my take on the situation. Bad choice and could harm him down the line when it comes to his contracts (you know the business side of playing ball)..Again just hope he learns from it and makes wiser decisions.
Just curious how you would have reacted if this was one of Roy's players?

If given the choice, I'd prefer the guy in the left lane coming towards me be smoking vs drinking

I would prefer neither be coming toward me. Both are under the influence. A lot of people been injured or killed in auto accidents by people under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

To be clear, I'm in no way condoning it or making excuses, rather just trying to not blow something this small in the grand scheme of things completely out of proportion. It's him carrying some weed. What it is. Would I care if it was one of the UNC guys? Hellllllll no. Feel free to find any posts of mine where I get on one of Roys kids for something this small- I might poke fun about the unc football player tripping a cal guy, point out the hypocrisy, but it's not my MO to go down the path of pointing fingers at this sort of thing. Pointing out their hypocrisy of cheating, that's different.

It's weed- probably 95+% of the league smokes weed. Am I for that- me personally no, but it's the way it is. I'm not some sort of naive kid who thinks it doesn't go on. And if you really want to be honest I'm sure there is plenty going on in many college locker rooms as well. But I'm not going down that rabbit hole. Clearly he needs to make smarter decisions, I'm sure it's embarrassing to him for this to come out. But it's not like he's suddenly a criminal, bad guy or deviant. It's like come on man clean it up and be smarter. Pretty simple. As for "counseling" if the court orders it or the NBA orders him to do it then fine. Have at it.

...I dont care what you say about everybody doing it...
Joe Dumars said it, not me. Hence the quotation marks.

The unconditional probability that any given NBA player smokes weed is "high." It's part of the culture. Some may not like it, but we should at least understand it.

Understood TImo, and for the record I wasn't trying to bash or get on you about your stance. I guess I just see it differently than you do. At the end of the day we do agree its not a highlight (no pun intended:oops:) of his career.

Certainly not a moment he'd like to remember....or be remembered for. He will be fine though. People make mistakes and in the grand scheme of things this isn't a huge one.

I do "understand it" quite well, probably even better than Mr. Ball! Lol OFC

A little pot doesn't surprise me. I would be willing to bet that 90 percent of pro players get high. In these days and times I am just glad he didn't get caught with something worse than pot which really would have surprised all of us. Probably the only former Duke player I would think that didn't smoke pot would be Shane Battier.

The thing that is stupid was him getting caught.

Obviously neither is better. My point was that I have seen people doing both, and the alcohol, from what I have seen. Is more impairing to motor skills and decision making than the pot.....again, it's not my thing and I am not trying to defend it or him....since I do not do it, maybe it's more impairing than I realize. I am basing my opinion from observation

Black guys obviously, Miles was probably just holding it for one of his African American teammates. Christ dude you got a relax with your racial ****.

Ahhh, so asking for clarification is racial ****?

Also, you're late son. We've discussed this and moved along. Thanks

Sure, and that would be dumb. I mean, a little teasing, but hell, I'd bet half this forum smokes weed sometimes.
And I'd say the Bullock thread dismissed the theory that the majority of this board would jump all over an opposing player for the same thing. Good nature ribbing is fine, again no need to blow it out of proportion.

Just agreeing w/Show who I think was rite about the ribbing amongst rival fanbases over it. Btw, I couldnt give a crap whether half the board does it or not- I doubt K, Dr. White, the Plumlee family, or Miles employer do either..They are much more concerned about MP. OFC

Miles messed up. he knew what how the NBA's stance on this . It doesn't matter how common it is in the NBA he got caught. You can make all the arguments in the world about it being legalized and how it should be accepted but the fact is it is not. Hope Miles uses better judgement. Yes I know I'm old school but pot has been around forever even in this old fart's day of the late 60's and early 70's. You guys know how much pot was being smoked then. It was taboo then and it's taboo now by society because it hampers your judgement just like alcohol. OFC

A misdemeanor offense by a former player who graduated 5 years ago? BFD.

Thank you. I'm not endorsing weed ( just as I wouldn't endorse booze or cigarettes ) but this is 2017. It'll be legal in all 50 states before long ( as it should be! ) and I totally reject the notion that Miles ( or anyone else in the exact same situation! ) did anything particularly "wrong." He broke some NBA rules but that's between him and the league. All due respect but this "I hope he gets his life straightened out" talk ( as if he's on a downward shame spiral of addiction and criminality ) is kinda silly. "Everybody does it so it's ok" has nuthin' to do with this either. Again , I'm not championing ANY type of drug use. But he's an adult and he can make that decision for himself.
